Yes!!!! The worst pain I've ever felt and when it goes away your completely exhausted mentally and physically!I was put on steroids which did nothing.. The only thing that helped was imitrex.. only the injection would help, the pill form did nothing! I have cluster headaches and this is a great explanation, it literally feels like a weird mix of the most horrible stabbing and electricity above my right eye. I can even feel a ball of something when it happens if I press. I literally imagine cutting my eye out to cope. (Which sounds horrible, but that's the only thing that helps.)
@3rdStageTruth Жыл бұрын
think what’s the worst about these headaches is the despair. This is something you can’t sleep through, you can’t medicate through. If you are sleeping, even with sleep aids, it will wake you up and by that point you’re up with the most severe of the pain. There have been weeks gone without sleep. the despair is knowing it’s coming. It’s groundhogs day, and you know exactly how bad it’s going to be. And there’s no stopping it. The thought of being out, driving, getting groceries, and every little head throb triggering the panic of wondering “is this the start of another one”. Mine are timed to the same hour of each day, and each cluster cycle is a different time. Currently it is the 10am hour. It’s been 2pm a previous cycle. It’s been 11pm on another cycle. You remember the times, you remember the pain, and you anticipate it, you prepare for it and then it hits and it remains the worst feeling of your life. I’ve ripped through my mattress with my toes just trying drive my face into my pillow. The yiu throw away the pillow and try the harder mattress. Then you make a fist and drive your eye into your fist. You just want to take a serrated ice cream scoop to your eye socket and just remove everything. You can’t touch the pain, it’s too deep. It pulses, and it tricks into thinking it’s subsiding, a split second of relief that feels like forever until it just grabs you again and squeezes, crushes, slowly, worse and worse until it lets go for another split second.

I hear this and at least know you’re not alone. I get 2-3 good months a year but typically by 6 months into a cycle I’m almost out of my mind and all I can repeat is the word “relentless”. I try to tell myself “you have to stay calm” but it’s hard. It’s really hard. A nerve block will by me a week of relief but insurance won’t pay. It’s worth it if you’re about to lose your mind tho, ha.

If this can help anyone, then great! I have suffered with "hortons headache syndrome - cluster headaches etc." for 15 years plus...my personal combination for relief (sometimes stopping it completely if you can catch it early enough!) is...open the windows and doors to oxygenate the room and get some airflow going on if possible, place an ice pack to the affected side of the head to constrict the vessels / dull the nerves, take a few blasts on a quality sinus relief up the affected nostril, taken with 3 Sumatriptan 50mg, plus 2 500mg co-codamol...you will still experience "dull" pain, but reduced pain, only provided you catch it early doors. But as said, early enough, and you can stop it fully manifesting - I also turn the lights out...however, I'm not to sure that this accomplishes anything other than calming me down. Everyone is going to describe the pain differently due to repertoire of language / ability to express themselves eloquently and accurately etc. so you cant rely on these forms of description. Simply...if you know the pain, and you legitimately suffer from this, then your number one priority should be helping yourselves and others through experienced, tried and tested methods of relief. It is the worst pain that you could possibly endure (within your head) and without a shadow of doubt, the worst kind of headache to exist...its not called suicide headache for effect. There are other methods out there for sure, do some research, but my personal experience is during seasons of activity - nothing "really" works (I have tried everything - side affects and all)...the above is just my method for "dulling" the pain - but as said, every so often, I'm lucky enough to catch it cold. Good luck!

This is how I describe cluster headaches to people who have no reference for such a sensation…it’s like an ice cream headache behind one of your eyes, only it’s hot and it lasts for an hour. That description typically snaps people out of the typical “oh yeah, I get migraines…I feel your pain” rap. It’s not even about trying to “one up” someone and collect victim points. I screamed into a pillow all night. It was the purest feeling I've ever experienced. No love, no hate, no sadness, no happiness, nothing was as pure as this. It was a thin laser of pain shot through me from the top of my head, through my left eye, out the bottom of my jaw. As soon as one went away, I had about 10 min before it all started over again, all night, over and over again. A cracked tooth triggered something horrible. I ended up taking a hard bristled toothbrush and physically scrubbing the nerve from my tooth out of my head. That wasn't so bad, it was my head and my eye that hurt, not the horror movie removal of the nerve.

The feeling you describe resonates very much with me. The color I can add to this description is pitch black with veils of red, it was like a insane trip. 100% guaranteed when I went to bed, I would get stabs inside my skull and lightning strikes down my jawline to make sure I couldn't sleep or rest my body. The stinging pain behind the eye, the right side of my head, by the upper jaw and ear, felt inflamed and warm. I was so fixated on my teeth that I avoided any sugar, I deep cleaned my teeth multiple times a day in fear of getting this severe pain back. The days after the attacks finally ended, it all felt very distant and unreal. I have always cleaned my teeth carefully, and the problem was never with my teeth, though I clean my teeth even more carefully now.

I can tell you they are excruciating and peculiar. They'll occur at the same time of day sometimes for days in a row, maybe longer. They'll come on fast and hit like a freight train, like a hot poker searing the inside of your brain from your eye to about your ear on one side of your head. Your eye may droop and water. Your nose may run. You may begin to rock back and forth and hit your head on something, maybe as a natural reaction to disrupt the feeling if only for a second. You might groan and moan and hit things. Sometimes it's hard to be still; it feels like you have to move and have to rock back and forth. It's very intense and very painful. I've used oxygen for the last couple clusters I've had, and I think it works to get the headache to go away more quickly. Not much else seemed to for me, but I may not have tried as many treatments as others. I get the clusters about once every 2 years, and I just started one last night - had a precursor headache around midnight that woke me up and then another a couple hours later that was more like a normal cluster headache. If you suffer from them, don't give up. I know terrible thoughts may enter your mind when you're having one, but remember, it won't last forever, and yes, you are stronger. Hang in there. Be tough. Love you guys.

WTF!!! I get aura migraines with the most horrible pain that the only description I have been able to come up with is... “a huge nail going through my eye and out my occipital lobe or base of the back of my head”. I find myself pulling on my eyebrows and applying harmful pressure on my eyes over my eye lids to redirect the pain somehow. I have to walk crouched like im going to fall head first onto the floor because lifting my head causes the headache to pulse like someone is tugging at what feels like a metal rod going through my eye. When needing to vomit, the pressure caused by the initial gagging also makes my head pulse and just have to try and not pass out while puking. I’ve had these since the age of 8 and am 43 now.
