Thank you so much this video helped greatly. I just acquired a 1983 suzuki gs650l and the previous owner laid it down broke the clutch handle and a few other things and this helped figure out why the bike wouldn't start. The oem part I got had a different connection so I just cut the wires spliced am and hooked directly to the switch and it works perfectly now

You're a lifesaver !! I just broke off the clutch switch while replacing my clutch lever. Wasn't aware of it's purpose exactly. I gues I'll look for a replacement of the switch.

Yesterday I was adjusting the handlebar position and after that my bike stopped starting while in gear. Thanks for the explanation. Probably I just pulled out the connector or something like that.

Hello sir.. thank you for making a detailed video. I was searching for the clutch switch failure videos and came across yours. Please help me with this...i have a Generation 2 Hayabusa 2020 make. A few days ago the bike was not starting properly. Somehow bike used to start with little clutch movements. After that the bike completely stopped starting. I thought it might be the issue with the battery so I replaced the old battery with the new one. Still facing the same problem. There's no cranking sound at all while trying to push the ignition. For my version i have to engage the clutch to start the bike even if the gear is in the neutral. When I push the Start button lights are going little dim as it happens while starting the bikes but there's no cracking sound. Is it the issue with clutch switch or the starter motor? 🙏🏻

Likely, neither. The start button and the kickstand switch are also on the circuit. Jump each to bypass them one-at-a-time. There may also be a Neutral switch on the same circuit. And there is the starter solenoid, too. I have videos on some of these.

Theres a good reason for that switch being there mate. Change it, dont jump it

good job my bandit 650 has a starting issue that may or may not because i have to operate the clutch lever 3 or 4 times before the bike starts 👍

This video was very helpful thank you So long story short I was having the same issue and after watching this helpful video went outside to take out the clutch switch and clean it as well when I saw that it had a loose connector so I properly connected it again and tried to turn it on with the clutch in and first gear in and it worked so I was being a noob should've checked first but anyways thanks for the video for future reference Honda cbr600rr 2009

Ninja 650 has 2 wires or 3?. I can see the switch is same. But there are 3 pins inside the switch

Hi, I hope I get a quick response because I use my bike for work and wanna know if I bypass this I dont have to touch the switch on the quickstand? because my problem its on the quickstand I think, because the neutro flickers sometimes but I could be wrong

@@marshalltbf109 Clutch switch is completely independent from the kickstand switch. Messing with one will have no affect on the other. It will neither break nor fix the other switch, so you still have to troubleshoot the circuit properly.

Any switch will do, or no switch at all, just connect the wires in ON configuration. (but it's a safety switch, you might not want to bypass the switch)

I had similar clutch issues on my '13 zx6r only because i purchased a new lever and it had its own perch which the switch can not connect to, now that I saw you jump it with a wire i think I shall try to find a super small piece of black wire and secure it with electrical tape so it all matches down there

+LazyWaffles I twisted my wire around the rest of the wiring harness twice and bent it in a U shape that holds the connector upside down in a vertical position. If there is vibration, it can only shake into the jumpwire, making electrical contact stronger if anything.

+theoverengineer i took a small piece of copper wire and folded it into the plug and wrapped it up nicely with black electrical tape and blended it

when you left the wire on it, did the gear light on the deck appeared? i tried just putting a wire and it will stay always on neutral, even thought it would be on 1st... help ?

Do you happen to know whether the plastic clutch 'plunger' can be purchased seperatly somewhere? Took a look at the site of kawasaki for parts, but it seems they only sell the switch as a whole...

So what if it stalls in 1st gear and you have the clutch pressed in to restart it in first gear ?

Some bikes restart in 1st, some others have a neutral switch in the shifter and in must be started in N

What if you cut the plunger short? Does the clutch stay engaged?

Bike will not start if the plunger is hacked off, stays extended and can not be pressed into the switch housing.

That doesn't fix the original problem, I just jumped the switch. Jumper wire has been in place since.

Not when it comes to a stop. Stalling is an air-fuel ratio problem.

Works on any switch that is NO (=normally open). Exaples include center stand switch, side stand switch, fuel cap/door/trunk ajar warning light. Lots of other examples.

Could have 2 more circuits running through: say 1 for powering the starter, 1 for ECU running data, 1 for safety linked to kick stand switch too. I`m guessing, not reading your wiring diagram. You do that.
