I watched like a dozen videos trying to figure out how synchro rings worked. This is the one where i finally got it. Thanks! :)

There is 1 vid that is so much better

Not quite correct.. the keys load the ring, then the detent ball depresses and allows the sleeve to slide over the synchroniser.

Nicely animated but isn't there a potential error here, the grey gear in the middle is connected to the output shaft while the red and blue gears are free to move around on the output shaft. So when the synchro rings starts doing their job, what should really happen is that the blue gear to the right should accelerate to match the grey gear which has a solid connection with the output shaft. I believe the model is made correctly, it's just the animation that does not respond to how a real life situation would be. The grey shaft would likely be connected with the wheels so the input (engine) will conform to what the output shaft is doing, instead of the opposite. If you're gong downhill the engine speed will go up to match the output shaft speed, hence why the animation should rather show the grey gear+shaft having a constant rotation speed. I might be wrong though :)

Thank you Eric for the detailed analysis of my Video. You are absolutely right. In modern double clutch gearboxes the grey shaft is the output shaft. In order for this animation to be correct, the grey shaft is connected to the engine.

I may have misunderstood something (I'm still trying to find the best explanation of all the steps that happen), but shouldn't the collar be blocked by the synchro ring until both input and output side have spun to the same speed? In this video the collar slips right over the ring and the teeth of the collar could touch the teeth of the gear if the gear lever would be pushed further. How would the collar force the ring against the cone of the output gear?

+sebascht Thanks! That showed it better! Pretty much works how I expected it to after thinking about it.
