Look up precision transmission if you want a mechanic's experience on how an automatic transmission works. They pull them apart in minutes and will explain what does what, why it failed, what the manufacturers did differently in later models to fix issues, what they didn't, and many more in depth but easy to understand explainations. By the time you're done watching a few of their videos you'll feel like you could rebuild a transmission yourself.

Three key functions, transmission fluid: ● it provides lubrication of the moving parts ● cools down the gearbox ● takes part in the hydrolic system *Work cycle* ● from the oil pan it goes through the filter and from it into the oil pump ▪︎ The oil pump then forces it in the valve body of the mechatronic at high pressure ▪︎ Mechatronic regulates the pressure and distributes it to the torque converter and various suctions of the gear box ▪︎ After that the oil goes through cooling system and returns the transmission .

I am a mechanic in Brazil and a staunch enemy of automatic transmissions, because they last little, break too much, and the cost benefit is too expensive for its useful life, not to mention that a mechanical transmission gives you quick and efficient responses, they last forever, for here an automatic transmission does not last more than 03 years.

When a car groans and draws on engine load in “Park” position; is the clutch pack of the torque converter being compressed in fault? Faulty pressure relief ? It pulls engine idle higher in response to a draw of torque against it. * My transmission rebuilder was unsuccessful at remedying the issue. 700$ in - still the same shudder issues ; mostly at full stop involving lunging against braking at lights.; and idling in “P”. 1993 AW 03-71 L in Volvo 940.

This is so so so complicated. We should keep things simple and make only those things that work well with out maintenance for a longer time. I would say a car should be made to work for 15 years or atleast 2 lakh km with just oil changes , air filters and other small things

I love how the version of software running your transmission is critically relevant to it's operation and is just as important as the mechanical design. EDIT: OK needing "software mechanics" on duty as well as actually mechanics for car repair REALLY pisses me off.

@launchbenz22424 жыл бұрын
When comes to maintenance cost,repair cost,replacement cost,manual transmission is the best. No automatic transmission has in real life same mpg as manual.I checked that with lots of cars.With manual transmission the chance to be stranded on motorway due to transmission issue is almost impossible. No automatic transmission has good reliability record. "Mechanics" these days are unable to diagnose correctly almost anything.That's the reason why,I believe manual is the most reliable transmission.If you don't ride clutch at traffic light,I guarantee the clutch will lasts 150000 easy. If you don't mind to pay a lot for transmission maintenance or repair and you like comfort,automatic is the best for you.

I was told that the electronic part has its own oil and SEALED (which mean if metal shavings found in the transmission oil doesn’t mean that the metal shavings can get into the electronic part ). My transmission is bad and want to replace it with a used one , I’m wondering if I have to buy the electronic part separately or no , note that no lights at all in my dashboard . Thank you!

You will ALWAYS have a higher MPG with a manual, than you would an automatic. If your vehicle from the factory has that option, the loss for an automatic is never less than 3, tops. A manual will have +3, give or take.
@yogadr63 жыл бұрын
Not on the modern specs that I've seen. Are you sure you're current?
@thomaswilsonsr.92063 жыл бұрын
@@yogadr6 Naw man, I only rebuild GM auto trans for a living and know the power loss through the drivetrain. Auto trans use hydraulic pressure based on computing and current speed via sensors, and some use TV cables and early early models use kickdown cables. An auto trans shifts when it's programed to, or based on the throttle input through a cable, or hydraulic pressure altogether. I could be mistaken for a few vehicle models and powerplants; with a standard shift trans you obtain more engine control and are capable of limiting, or adjusting engine speeds.

I have never understood the problem with aggressive driving and burnouts. Once the clutchpacks engage (which they do in parts of a second) the torque converter takes all the beating at low rpm and its should be no different than a manual transmission once lock up is engaged.
@ROGUESPIRIT_5 жыл бұрын
Because when you're trying to do a burnout you can slip the clutches instead of the wheels. The whole time you are doing a burnout you are stressing the entire drive line and the easiest to slip item is what goes first. so if you have large tyres and a weak/old gearbox you will slip the clutch packs instead and burn them out.

When I inspected the transmission I can hear noise inside, something like engaging and disengaging every second or so. When I moved the car, I noticed the car feeling like it was auto switching from drive to park then to drive snd so on. On the cluster I can see when I change to any other gear the icon is displaying the gear I selected then keeps jumping to park and back to the gear selected. I can't seem to find anything with similar issues on any auto transmission models. Just trying to workout what could be causing this before i get it towed to someone. Cheers
