Wow I listen to speakers about clutter 24/7 for years on end and i feel like i really got new information, new inspiration, new insights, new energy, and new ideas. So many new feelings. This was great!!!!!! You both communicate so well together. Really easy listening 👂 This has changed me ❤ This isnt so much how to declutter your life but realise life is clutter…. Be it problems, decisions, work, relationships, activities as well as just things. I am running to buy this book for me and some close friends most of which DO NOT have any clutter issues (in the home) but this is life advice and I can now see that clutter lurks in lots of areas of our life and maybe some of us manifest the actual clutter and some of us the mental clutter and this book sounds like a must read for anyone ❤❤❤

That was so good! I was the mom who kept the kid’s sippy cup etc. But it was in a labeled bin!!! lol I did finally get rid of many things after my grandkids came along. Some people are so sentimental!!! I am getting much better at getting rid of things.

I am doing very well with decluttering and keeping clean. I help others as well. Truly, I am doing well. I say that to tell you this: I still have most of my young children's things. Many clothes, porta-crib, play-pen, etc. My first grandchild is now 14 months. I didn't have anyone to gift them to. In that era (I am 60 yrs old), there weren't online sales, and I didn't have a place or time for a yardsale. I had space to store those things, and most things are able to be used. The crib is no longer considered safe, but everything else is safe and in great condition. Some clothes obviously didn't hold up, but I was fortunate that most are usable. Looking at today's world, I would her rid of most of it. I would keep a play kitchen, and baby doll crib that my father in law made for my daughter when she was a toddler. We made minor repairs, and they are wonderful memories and so nice to see another generation using them. I also kept my rocking chair that I used as a toddler, and my children used as well. I think if you have the space, and there is a reasonable expectation that it will be used again, it's okay to save. I will let go of the other baby things after my grandkids are done using them. I have a world of options now to gift or donate things.

While decluttering has major benefits, we are also losing a lot of craftsmanship from the past, and inflation is putting the remainder out of reach for so many people. Thoughtfully saving some things for others (family or not) can be so nice, as long as it doesn't become a hoard, or negatively affect us.

Ok Cass, and I hear this from many “minimalists” or those talking about decluttering, it surprised me that you didn’t quickly understand WHY she would have kept the sippy cup for sentimental reasons - and I’m glad he explained what her reasoning could have been - good balance in the conversation

The old sippy cup could also mean: any small child will be welcome here because I have this sippy cup. Now, I have purged baby/child eating/drinking tools, but I loved having those things available when entertaining young families over the years. Old people are allowed to have younger friends!!!!

Oh my, first sentence hit me. I still have sippy cups. I have decluttered my kitchen and was feeling so proud, now? I am 68 years old and am just now having my first grandchildren. Finally the 12 books of children's books will be used, but no, now the books have sound buttons, so much more fun. Some of the little tyke toys are still useable. I didn't llknow I would have to wait 30 years to use the stuff I have save. Love your content. Cass you are very motivating.

Very cool guest! I especially liked what he said about decluttering responsibilities and work. My mom ( who was a very organized person) used to tell me to work smarter not harder. I also liked the joy thru the house idea. The medals in the sock drawer seem to serve a dual purpose because they also remind you to do laundry because you are "running" out of socks!😂

Today my hubby helped me bring groceries in from the trunk of my car. He asks “why go you have this guitar case in here”. Its one that he replaced. I asked him 2 weeks ago what he was going to do with it. His reply “I’ll find someone that needs it” Me: how about if I donate it before Christmas. He says ok but suddenly forgot when he saw it. He hates getting rid of anything. I’m a trash bag in hand seeking what I can toss. I don’t know how this is going to end but it’s coming out of the house. 🤪🤪

With our kids, I encouraged them to donate their stuff often especially after Xmas and they had new stuff. But I also often just chucked stuff without asking if I noticed it hadn’t been accessed in a long time or buried in their robes or left under the bed in the dust. They never missed it and never asked me for it. Never.

750 sq ft is a tight squeeze with 3 kids. I grew up in a house that was about that size only with a basement. We had a big playroom in the basement. My parents made it work. We were outside kids too. I’m in my 60’s now, so I did come from a generation where we didn’t have the number of toys that kids now have. ❤

I have a momento item its music box in the shape of a white rose that my dad had gotten my mom she gave it to me after they divorced and it plays the rose my mom used to sing it at karoake and I sang it in a karaoke competition I placed 15th place out of 2000 something people within 2 states. That was my only competition I ever competed in but the feeling I got with nerves and excitement singing in front of a crowd. I just will never forget that so that music box triggers alot for me. I love singing it's a big part of who I am.

Maybe just try one small area at a time so it doesnt feel too overwhelming. Like set a timer for 10 mins and pick one drawer to declutter. The more small areas you do you start feeling good like you achieved something.

Love the not doing the work. Our bedroom is just so dirty and dusty. we have done tons of decluttering and thats whats left. i do not have the capacity at this time to do a deep clean. so i said to my hubby, how about hiring out just for our room. hes like fine. so that is next up. im glad to hear it put out there. its not failure to admit a limit; that a plate is full, but things still have to get done. why not facilitate that with help? thanks so much! :)
