This friction thinking is awesome! This is exactly what I battle every day. My husband doesn't seem to understand it, shaking his head, if I explain how I feel about it :-D

I'm 75 years old and have lived in over 60 homes in several countries and several US states. I was so comforted to hear how "the power of pretty" energized you during your move in. I have always done that! I'd get to a point where I just needed to "rest", so I'd take a break and suddenly my mind would be envisioning the finished product and I'd find myself up and decorating. Even just getting a few of the final touches taken care of would refresh me and allow me to do something more "practical." HOME is about emotions - and 'pretty' revs those emotions up something fierce!! (In our case, it has always been important to quickly establish the FAMILIAR 'stuff', too - HOME is also about feeling like you belong.) I am viewing this video a year after you moved into your new home, and it must feel great to have most everything done now. Congrats!!

Cas I so wish I'd known this 31 years ago when I started my family straight out of university. I was never taught how to tidy, being the youngest all the older ones just did it faster and better and I would go to my room and play. I'm now 30 years behind in my housework but something clicked recently and I don't let myself do my art which can consume 8 hours in the blink of an eye, until I've spent an hour on the 'basics'. And you know what? I've discovered that I actually love cleaning and having a nice home 😊 Thank you for being so encouraging and inspiring

I do think that some people just have more energy than others, or different personalities. My sister has alot of energy and is always out doing lots. She works fulltime, goes to the gym, plays sports, socialises with friends... But I have very low energy levels so its not even physically possible for me to do alot. I tried to work fulltime but became unwell so had to cut down to 3 days. Its important to understand your limits and not push yourself beyond what you can physically do. I need to rest in between doing things. I'm also introverted and very sensitive, so going out and working/being around people is exhausting. I need to have time alone at home to "recover." Anyways, just want to say its ok to do less sometimes and not be a super "productive" person 😜 I like the idea of doing a little bit each day, when you have fatigue issues I think this would work well because you only have a small amount of energy each day to spend. I can do little bits of chores/tidying, but then I need to rest cos it exhausts me 😢

THE ONE RULE: All the surfaces are "hot lava" such as kitchen counter or floor (like the game, so can't place items there). Stuff has to be put away on a shelf, closet, drawer.

I chuckled a little bit at Cass’s surprise that he’s still teaching while also doing his Tidy Dad work. Of course we teachers always have a side hustle to pay the bills! 😅

Priorities and ur topic tides in hand in hand, which one comes first? The vicious circle makes it difficult to make the change or make it feel like never reaching the finish line.

I only listen to the audio and the amount of 'like' he is saying is very annoying. Which is sad, he has so many true things to say!

Currently having my sisters go through all the craft stuff in my garage that “fantasy me” was going to do. The only rule is that whatever leaves can’t come back. Also have family from Mexico who are teachers that I’m giving a lot of stuff to. Feels good to let this go.

My mother in law asks me a year later where something is that she gave us for a gift. I keep it out of guilt so when asked about it I can say I still have it even though I don’t use it.

This was awesome! Just two weeks ago I said to myself, “you were an HR Director for a Fortune 500 managing their largest site with 300 employees, you have to run this house like you ran the xxxx”. And I just got confirmation from this video. I need to reevaluate some areas , but I’m on “track” Thank you again for all to do! Today Cas, I am tackling my closet, the track stopped while I was working on the garage.

One thing I got from KonMari was to use my sentimental things and that has really changed my home. And honestly, I am so grateful for the food, medicine, and toilet paper I have stashed. I can shop from my home. I know exactly what I have stored and how much, and that I do not need to go to the store. I live alone and recently had the flu and I had all I need. I am ready to again go through my home and do a deep tidy so that I have what I need for the life I want. Like you all said here, making what you need for your life easily accessible. This was an awesome podcast. I plan to listen again. I hope his book will be available in an audiobook format.

Oh, boy. Listen tidy dad, take your granny’s items graciously and donate them. Grow up and learn to respectfully view from another’s perspective. I’m only a few year older than you, but I cannot handle the disrespect of criticizing the older generations.

Omg... I remember going to see a psychiatrist when my oldest was little. Was told I had depression. And now after feeling like a failure at work and home. I finally realize.. IT'S ADHD. I booked an appointment with a Dr next week. As I know I need support. I feel so overwhelmed learning about ADHD. Oh and I just wanna learn it all at once. Lol ADHD😅

What would be great is if your family patted you on the back for how far you have come and how much they appreciate all the work you have done to afford the roof over their heads. This home is validation for you. I hope your family acknowledges that a women has every right to be as successful as a man.

It now takes me 5-10 minutes a day to just tudy all the high traffic areas of ny home oncluding my bedroom. It helps, too, that I usually put things asay as I use them...something I had to really train myself to do

The app for plant watering is called Planta (at least that's the one I use). It's great and there is also a free version with less features but it still sends you watering reminders.

Thank you so much icy for what you! This so very true! I have listening to you podcast as I completely transformed my garage. I feel on top of the world. I created a mudroom area in our garage and decorated it with art, scriptures and old pics of the kids. All things I found decluttering the junk…I was able to use what I already had to make our garage a wonderful place to leave and come back each day. Every area actual defined zones and it has been working out so well. I gave away 15 bags of stuff and got rid of 15 contractor size bags of trash and recycling ♻️! Our last phase is to install ceiling racks to store our camping gear and seasonal decor so that it’s off the floor because it’s easy to place stuff on the floor when things are already on the floor. Thank you so much for being with me on this journey…it feels so good!

We have always had a rule: NO FOOD outside the kichen or living room. Same rule I had growing up. And I never had a problem from my child. And now that its just my husband and I, we still keep the rule. Food leave crumbs. Crumbs attract bugs and mice. You live in a rural setting now, and I dont think you really want to attract those new housemates.
