What I've learned from living in a tiny flat: the most important thing is, to keep it tidy all the time. Don't let small things and stuff lay around because as it is such small space it seems really chaotic and heavy, if there are too many things you can look at. Keep it clean and straight, not too much stuff. Not too many thingies and decorations. That helps a lot in the first place.

in my point of view you need decoration with storage. For example I have a box really nice in a shelf to hide chargers, a chest to storage receipts and a puf where I put the blankets and bags. Also for the inside of the cupboards boxes or containers are useful because when you use them as drawers things are more handy and you use more the vertical space. I live in 35m2 and this has made a huge difference

I had to smile when you were taling about the "apartment beige" walls. Before apartment beige, white was the go to neutral for rentals (and the army housing of my childhood :) when the beige began to be used it was such a relief after so much "sterile white" (navajo white) - grin - It looked so fresh and sophisticated. Just like white kitchens are back "in" after people raised in the 1900 to the 1950's longed to ditch the white and have wooden and color cabinets. The fashion wheel turns. I think that we all long for the fresh and the new. and yes, these days I really like white again. This was fun to watch. Thank you to your friend for sharing her apartment with us.

Tealeaf Song yes! My childhood home was built in the late 90’s, so most all the walls were white. During the mid-2000’s that was so “dated” and my mom had everything painted carefully selected colors. Few years later and the white is in high demand again! @@IfYouMeetAWolf I agree; but it was "too white" for my hubby. When I repainted my woodwork a pristine white (behr's swan's wing) there was a slight contrast with the creamy walls. Perhaps beige is in the eye of the beholder?
@IfYouMeetAWolf4 жыл бұрын
@@Tealeafsong I'm sure that today we are more use to "pristine" whites, and it's trendy to almost go as white as possible, making anything that's not as white (aka beige or which ever underlying hint of color) so much more obvious, since we are more use to pristine white today. On top of that, i think there's an illusion at play. Like you said, when you painted something much more white and held it up towards something you thought were white, you're gonna notice the difference. Just like how most people would agree that paper white is a sort of "pure white", but when you compare it to real pure white, you're gonna notice just how greyish or beige it is in comparison (depending on the brand of the paper).

So much of what Alexandra showed us in the before…such as “no counter space, whatsoever “…in the kitchen! Was anything done there beside adding the Ikea island, which held very little. Does she not have but a handful of books?. The apartment is so bland…I’m surprised the framed wrapping paper and the soft coral coverlet are virtually the only splashes of color (that can be seen…ok , I’ll add the large hanger dots?!), except for the small group of books 📚 on one of the shelves which shows splashes of color from their ‘spines’. The apt. feels like a stopover place…a bed-sit…a pied-à-terre, 3 names which primarily mean: foot on the ground. 😊 Maybe this ‘flat’ is Theresa’s ‘stop over…as mentioned above”. Black and white together are considered ‘cold’. There is so much black?! The ‘textured throw pillows’ do help… yet again they are black and white…grabbing some of the fabulous colors from the large Print would truly add the warmth and fun inviting feeling !!!The touch of color is too neutral… the coverlet brings out a tiny bit of color on her Great Wrapping Paper/Print!! There are several other colors in the awesome Print which could have been used to add more color into the ‘flat’. As you said..the print is “the first thing you see when you come into the apt”…The chair by the bed…sitting on it for any length of time would be uncomfortable…maybe to tie her shoes?! Frankly to many of us it would be ‘the catch all…piled with clothes’ storage piece! Regarding starting with “hey guys, and cont. 11:50 re:”this makeover was over” but not over”?! you say “I hope you like this style of video…more vloggy “?! This style, for me, is difficult to follow. Please know I appreciate this is your space, and yes..the makeover looks so much better than the space was beforehand. Thank you for providing us with a Super Program…where we can see your ideas come to life and where you kindly allow us to critique in a kind orderly way. You are “so cute”. My recommendation on hanging shelves is used the same type everywhere, so they can be combined or repositioned and everything works together. I have lived with baseboard heaters many times and a great trick is to attach a 1x4 to the wall above the heating unit and use that to wall-mount a bookcase. Pot lights are great -- hang things underneath them, such as a colored glass ball or plate or mobile. Use different kinds of bulbs for different effects, such as a narrow-throw spotlight. Use LED bulbs to cut heat output for fire safety and energy savings. I agree about the beige paint -- it's like painting something to look dirty already. Get WRITTEN permission from the landlord before painting or it could cost your rent deposit -- even if it's white.

Maybe if the pendant was looped across the ceiling over the bed, it wouldn't look like a vertical cord with a dangling lightbulb midway up the wall. This feature was not in the correct proportion to the wall space--too petite. If it had a rattan shade like the Target lamp, then maybe. @@lindadonaldson7568

In the UK the rental colour is called “magnolia” but I see it as a puss yellow and I don’t understand it either. Especially since most homes are dark and gloomy like the weather! The next house I rent I’m painting all the walls bright white!

I really enjoyed this makeover. Much as your personal style and colour preferences are lovely to look at, I prefer deeper, stronger colours around me. I love it when you base makeovers on dark feature walls or furniture etc. The deep blues and greens, even the the charcoal/blacks really tick my boxes. Velvet furniture is a dream of mine but with three pets, all shedding white hair, velvet furniture is just a dream for the next few years.

This honestly was one of my favorites by you. Im an artist and love the wrapping paper idea. Just want to add anyone can create art worthy of a frame. Some ideas are abstract watercolors. Choose 3 colors and play around. Map out a border 1st with tape so u have clean lines. Another idea is framing art in a book or magazine. You can even make a color copy or turn a color photo black and white. I have framed musicians in my hallway. I love getting pics from children's books that they outgrow or that maybe damaged. One more idea i love is if you have access to a mini artist especially preschool age let them have a dat creating art. Get out paints crayons different paper textures and they will do the rest. I love how much charm a framed artwork from a child adds a whimsical touch to a kitchen or bathroom especially.

What a transformation! I like your style very much: it's down to earth and innovative at the same time. You appreciate your client's budget and style and you don't unnecessarily throw stuff away. Also, I like most of the art you use (I am a visual artist, so for better or for worse, I'm pretty finicky about art). That space literally feels larger now - awesome job!

I was thinking the same thing. I would put a really comfortable upholstered chair in that space under the shelf. They don't have to be super big and bulky either. I used to have a great compact recliner in red faux suede that was stylish and comfortable, and barely took up space. I would have also added a 2nd shelf above the first...maybe staggered about 6 inches apart for visual interest. To be honest, I didn't really love the framed wrapping paper until you added the soft pink throw. I agree, the pillows really make it comfy and beautiful. You had so many great ideas here. Great transformation. I also loved the long curtains and the island/ table to kind of divide up the space and still be completely usable. I'll bet she flipped when she saw it and just loved it! ❣️

I love everything about the makeover except the hanging lightbulb. Perhaps if it was at seating level? two or three of them together at different heights? or one on each side of the bed at a lower height. Adding the pillows was a stroke of genius, and I love the Target lamp. Thank you for giving us so many ideas! [ [edited to add - now IKEA has some awesome, awesome lightbulbs that are beautiful (one is like a large teardrop with a smoky glass) and double the size of the one in the makeover. I don't know if they have them in your area, but definitely a bigger bulb would add a je ne sais quoi to the hanging lamp.]

I'm surprised Alexandra didn't put the head of the bed on the smaller angled wall. I know it's actually two walls and slightly angled but feel like that would have opened up some more space, visually at least.
@wilmaknickersfit4 жыл бұрын
@@moontiggsland Yes, I get that and would probably feel the same, but that said, I would have included a decent armchair instead of the chair Alexandra chose. TBH it's a great space and I'm sure it would be possible to to create sitting and sleeping zones. I'm very keen on separating the sleeping area by hanging sheer voile curtains from the ceiling that can be tied back. There's 2 natural light sources in the door and the window that could be used to zone the space. I love how the island unit fits into the space, but I do wonder if Alexandra had restrictions we were unaware of.

I like this video a lot. When you do this style of video, Your voice sounds like a normal human being as opposed to, oh that NPR voice that a lot of people use in their videos and that I've noticed you use as well. I'd rather hear your normal voice. The makeover you did in this episode really reflected a refined style. I appreciate that style a lot. I would have liked to have seen a small table next to that gorgeous chair. But perhaps whatever piece she chooses to put under the floating shelf could serve that function.
