People so worried about 40 times this and that...I'm wanting to know is he a good fit for the family in that locker room? Is he gonna bust his A and stay humble? How much of a dog is he? There's so much that goes into these selections than we can ever see. I agree- I think he's great and the greatest fit. Love the aggressive pick. Love this recent quote: "So it’s like, you can’t sit there and dwell on something that’s not benefiting you personally or your ego. It’s more important to me, like, I put on a helmet that says ‘Chiefs,’ not, you know, ‘Edwards-Helaire’ posted on everything I have. For those nerds who hate this pick just because it's a RB in the first round - get your noses out of your data and get into the real world - and I say this as an analytic person myself (in baseball - where it is far more applicable than football). The SUPER BOWL CHAMPION CHIEFS are in WIN NOW mode. The Chiefs had no running back on the roster that has carried the load over a full NFL season. Damien Williams is a good back - when healthy - and his staying healthy during a season has yet to occur. Darwin Thompson is - like Clyde Edwards-Helaire - a small but stout running back. The difference is the Edwards-Helaire is a few steps up the rung in terms of talent. Recent pickup DeAndre Washington is just a complementary back - nothing more - who played with Mahomes at Texas Tech. While there may have been a couple of RB who are "better" than Edwards-Helaire, no back in the draft fits the Chiefs as well. This was a perfect fit - which is more important. As for the "value" or supposed lack-of in drafting a RB in the first round, it doesn't apply here for a couple of reasons. A team controls a first round pick for an extra season. This is a huge point for a team that appears to be in prime position to compete for Super Bowls for the next five seasons. The problem teams run into is when they select a stud RB early in the first round, but aren't that competitive while the stud RB racks up outstanding seasons, and then, when his rookie contract is up, they can't afford to pay him. The next team that is dumb enough to then sign the RB also discovers it wasn't worth the money. The Chiefs are not in either position. They are winning now, and they have some cap issues, so a stud RB on the cheap is exactly what they need to complete the offense. Another point - the worst thing an organization can do is rest on their laurels when they have a stud QB and believe they don't have to continue to build up the offense around him. Look at Green Bay - an organization that has wasted the talent of Aaron Rodgers because they foolishly believe they only need to surround Rodgers with decent but lower-tiered players. What a waste of a career. They never draft a stud WR or RB to complement Rodgers. Hey - no QB - not Rodgers, not Manning, not Mahomes - is going to fulfill that common fallacy that says "he's good enough to make any player around him that much better." The fallacy is in the phrase "that much better." If the player the QB is going to make that much better is only an average player (or worse), he may end up being a "better-than-average" player, but hardly a stud. Remember Dan Marino? Great QB. Who was the stud RB on the Dolphins during his prime years when he first entered the NFL and tore up the statbook? I'll wait. Actually, I'll save you the trouble - he never had one. His top receivers (remember the "Marks Brothers"?) were, in reality, far from elite. Marino made them look far better than they were, but, again, the point is that he could only raise them up so much. I have read that the Chiefs should have traded back a few picks to select him in the 2nd round. The problem is that you lose that very important fifth year control of the player. Why is that so difficult to understand. Yeah, if it was the Jets, it would not have made sense, but this is the Chiefs - they are prime to keep winning for the next five seasons. Why these dorks fail to see this is laughable.
