I would say the ‘on train and on bus’ thing is because you can stand up on them whereas you can’t stand in a car.

“Why do we say I’m on the bus/train rather than in the bus/taxi like we do with cars?” Guessing part of it might be because you can’t walk into a bus/train without having to lift your feet up and push yourself onto a bus/train whereas with a car you open the door and step into the car like how we enter rooms by opening a door and stepping in the room 🤷‍♂️
