CMA announces James Burton, John Anderson and Toby Keith as Country Music Hall Of Fame Class Of 2024

In 1961, CMA created the Country Music Hall of Fame to recognize artists and industry professionals who have made outstanding contributions to the genre.
CMA gathered at the prestigious Hall of Fame Rotunda at the Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum to reveal the 2024 inductees into the Country Music Hall of Fame - James Burton, ‪@JohnAndersonOfficial‬ and ‪@TobyKeith‬.
Burton will be inducted in the Recording and/or Touring Musician category, which is awarded every third year in rotation with Songwriter and Non-Performer categories. Anderson will be inducted in the Veterans Era Artist category and Keith will be inducted in the Modern Era Artist category.

Wow... knowing when the process ended & the fact that Toby Keith was selected before his death & the CMA was given the news of the Hall of Fame results the day after his death & that he didn't live to hear this news is bittersweet. His legacy will live on forever. RIP Toby Keith.

Great selection, John Anderson was my go to songs in my early 20’s. Bartending, drinking days. Toby my settled down days in the 90’s. For sure he was one of my favorites. Didn’t know James , I don’t believe. Toby , How do they like you now 🫶

The CEO of the CMA said in the live stream that he was selected into the HOF before his death. The process ended on Friday, February 2nd & the CMA received the news on the 6th (the day after his death) so if he had lived, he still would’ve attended.

Clint Black, yes. Jeannie Seely, no. She had maybe 3 hit songs nearly 60 years ago, none of which have stood the test of time outside of the Grand Ole Opry, where Jeannie has managed to milk her 15 minutes of fame for the last half century. She belongs in the Grand Ole Opry Hall of Fame, if there is one, not the Country Music Hall of Fame.

John Anderson was elected in the Veterans-Era category (artists who achieved national prominence before1979). If Clint was a nominee this year (and I would assume he was), he would have been running against Toby Keith in the Modern-Era category (artists who achieved national prominence in 1979 or afterwards).

What happened to the Hall of Fame rule that states an artist has to wait at least a year after their death to be inducted so no SYMPATHY votes would be cast.....Why was it broken for Toby ...besides others where much more deserving and have waited years to be inducted....Shame on the HOF.....glad to see John Anderson get his due

Crystal Gayle is NOT already in the HoF? What, does the HoF not like female artists who could cross over into pop? Dolly and Tanya are there (as they should be), so that can't be a reason. The Country Music Hall of Fame is more relevant than the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in its selection of artists...but there are still many, many glaring omissions. Who gets to vote on these anyhow?

If there's a Grand Ole Opry Hall of Fame, that's where Stonewall Jackson belongs. But not in the Country Music Hall of Fame, which was created to honor artists who made OUTSTANDING contributions to country music.
