I am in Final Frontier study program for the NPTE and they said the trapezium is convex and the metacarpal (MC) is concave. Wanted to clarify bc you said the opposite in this video.

Hello Chloe The convexity and concavity changes, depending on which movement you are looking at because it’s a saddle joint. So for abduction and adduction the MC is convex, which is why we roll and glide into opposite directions. For Flexion and Extension, the MC is concave - then we roll and glide in the same direction.

Let me re quote what’s written in NTPE book. A posterior glide of the metacarpal would be used to increased carpometacarpal abduction. In this plane a convex surface is moving on a concave surface so the glide will occur in the opposite direction to the osteokinetic movement of abduction. It’s so confusing now . Plz clarify
