BIG HORIZON are Mike Stevens, Iain Hornall, Donovan Hepburn, Jo Webb & Lee Pomeroy.
They have been the backbone of Jeff Lynne’s ELO since 2013 and Take That’s band since 2006 (longer for some!). As Mike explains ‘Big Horizon’ has been around for a lifetime in our minds! The band represents a group of friends and musicians bringing together their musical loves in one place’ Those friends have played for Take That, ELO, Annie Lennox, Adele, 10cc, Yes and were the house band for the Queens Golden Jubilee concert in 2012. But when the UK & Europe leg of the ELO tour was canceled due to Covid in 2020 the guys finally started to make the band a reality. ‘We definitely live in that Yacht Rock world thanks to our singer Iain’ says guitarist Jo, ‘and even a bit of prog thanks to bassist Lee but overall, we are trying to write catchy classic pop songs that everyone can relate to’. ‘We’ve got four vocalists in the band’ points out drummer Donovan ‘which means we can have a lot of fun with harmonies and with Mike on sax we can return to the days of Steely Dan and Earth Wind & Fire when nobody was afraid of a horn section!’ As part of the recording process for the album the band decamped to the legendary Rockfield Studios in South Wales. ‘To be able to record in the same studio where Queen recorded Bohemian Rhapsody was just an amazing experience’ explains bassist Lee, ‘the tape machine they used is still there!’ You can see a few videos that the band recorded at Rockfield on their KZbin channel.

They work off of each other perfectly! I saw some clips from the start of ELO's farewell tour when Jeff Lynne was forgetting some words, Ian stepped in right away. Over that tour, you could tell something was growing within them! I hope they have a good time and bring big success!
