Well I was introduced by others to his music back then when I was in college and hung at with a bunch of country boys and thought he was great. I keep drifting back to that music today and fairly recently discovered his bluegrass work with the Del McCoury Band on Mountain, which I have been wearing out. Just really good stuff.

Aww man he was so handsome ...and he could sing ...his voice fantastic .. & he can write those songs ...just wish he would have taken better care of himself ..and not got mixed up in the life he did ..such a waste of youth ...I'm glad he got straighted out..however or whoever helped him ...get that way ...man oh man !! smh ! I'm glad he's still able to sing ....just wow man ...I know Justin T. Earle his son Missed out on having a father figure...he said his grandparents helped raise him ...I've always wondered if it was the life Steve lived that introduced Justin to the drug's and alcohol at such an early age ..Poor Justin pined for his dad ..too bad Steve didn't see it or maybe just the life Steve was hooked on.. too messed up to see about Justin's needs and Justin's pain
@annalisavajda25216 күн бұрын
Well he was a talented musician like his Father too but lots of them think great art comes from great suffering and it's part of the lifestyle sex drugs and rock n roll he was 38 and overdosed on drugs laced with fentanyl which were a non issue in the 70s and 80s when Steve was young still it's tragic.

@Daughter-of-an-outlaw5 ай бұрын
Oh God, no! When he was 33, that's when Copperhead Road came out. So, in this video, he'd be only 32, because he said he eldest kid is 5, which would be Justin, and Steve was 27 when J.T was born in 1982 and 5 years later would put you at 1987. Sorry if that came out a little rude. I didn't mean it to be😔 I just wanted to get facts out... with math... that I ain't great at lol

Notice that on the video he changes the lyric to "cheap guitar!"
@garystover7129 Жыл бұрын
@@keithgrimes9622 Yeah, and he should have. But no doubt there was no malice aforethought. It's a song of la joie de vivre of being a young musician finally getting his big break and touring in a big van with a band he's really synched in with. I think going from "Jap" to MIJ would have been a good switch. And here I am , telling my favorite songwriter how to improve on the lyrics of his first hit.

After, but he got clean after many years, such a great artist, he's older now and can see all the wasted years, and to know that he could have been one of the all time greats, like George Jones, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings,Merle haggard to name a few off the top of my head.......but no doubt what he was able to put out was great for sure and will always be remembered....,.he lived hard and fast, but he is still alive to tell the story!!

You can get a very long way on $37 and a cheap guitar if you can sing like Steve Earl, so far that when you get loaded with cash you can help drive up the prices of realy nice guitars into the stratosphere where guitar virtuosos cant afford one.
