Very sorry to hear about Chuck’s passing. Thought it would be nice to review his life again and try to learn. :)

Thanks for making a company that is so entrenched in its own doublespeak that it screws its own employees and customers alike!

Fascinating talk!! Though at 49:11 "Steve complains about Flash but the reason has nothing to do with technology and more to do with business" It was actually all very much 100% about the tech. Flash was and still very much is unmatched for artist who want to create animations for distribution. It produces beautiful vector graphics, very compact compressed runtimes and provides a virtual machine for programming games. And also these are the *same reasons Steve Jobs reprimanded Flash. Beautiful vector graphics are difficult to accelerate in hardware - iOS and Android have APIs to do hardware-accelerated vector graphics but not in a generalized way required to deal with all the layering modes that Flash supports. Flash is a proprietary file format. Any plugin had to be provided by Adobe, which meant 32-bit & 64-bit versions for various platforms/browsers/operating systems. They were not pro-active about this. It was a nightmare. Had they open-sourced the official player, it would've been wonderful - probably not enough to keep the format around though. (see my next point) Flash is a virtual machine. This means that every one of those little Flash animations on your page is actually a little emulated chugging those graphics out. A little computer running software, for every little web ad on a web page. This is fine on desktop machines but not very fine on mobile devices. Very, very not fine. Especially on a mobile device, where that flash animation is no bigger than an icon, yet it needs to do all that Flashy web ad stuff. Adobe produces some great products - not as elegantl as Postscript really was in it's day, but I do use Photoshop CC on a daily basis and features like "content-aware fill" and "magic wand" are mindblowing. Where Adobe may have difficulty is that it is largely in the business of supporting these decades old apps, overlaying new features to old code-bases, but small companies are releasing streamlined new apps, completely new user-interface ideas, and near realtime GPU-accelerated tools. Affinity Pro and Pixelmator are good examples.
