CN, VIA Rail & GO Train railfanning at Bayview Junction! November 5, 2021

On a beautiful Friday afternoon in early November, I visited a new spot for the first time: the famous Bayview Junction in Hamilton, Ontario. Bayview Junction is where the CN Oakville, Dundas, and Grimsby subdivisions meet. It is also home to the CP Hamilton subdivision. GO Trains come from the east on the Oakville sub, and will use the CN Grimsby sub to West Harbour, or the CP Hamilton sub to Hamilton GO Centre. VIA trains use the CN Dundas sub to go towards London & Windsor, and they used to run to Niagara on the CN Grimsby sub.
Bayview Junction is truly an amazing spot for railfanning - if you are lucky and come at the right time, you could catch GO trains, VIA Rail, CN, and CP freight trains in one session, with train meets also possible! In this video, I filmed 3 GO Trains, 2 VIA, and one long intermodal CN Freight train!
The first spot I filmed at was the northeast corner of the junction, where the CN Oakville and Dundas subs meet. It has a nice clearing, with trains rounding the bend in both directions. At this spot I filmed an eastbound and westbound GO Train, VIA 72, VIA 73, and CN 148 - a long eastbound intermodal freight train heading eastbound towards Montreal.
The second spot I filmed at was the south corner of the junction, where the CN Oakville & Grimsby subs meet, and also where the CP Hamilton Sub is located. The view from the top of the hill was fantastic, overlooking Burlington Bay, downtown Hamilton, and plenty of fall colours. I was only able to catch two GO Trains. Unfortunately, I missed a CP Train on my way to the spot. I also found it really cool to see the GO Trains snake across the tracks as they switch from track 1 to 3.
This visit was certainly an enjoyable one, and I look forward to coming back to Bayview Junction in the near future. I hope you enjoy this video, subscribe for more freight trains videos coming soon!

Do GO trains travel along there so slowly because of they are within Yard limits? Or is it due to an incline?

They go slowly because they are switching multiple tracks
