I might be wrong because of how media portrays inmates, but I love how there’s no shouting, yelling, slamming of doors etc... like it’s calm in this prison.

The whole atmosphere of the prison is so calming and reassuring, almost therapeutic. Everyone is softly spoken, the inmates themselves are polite and the guards are understanding. Love the fact they have counselling sessions and chances to learn hands on skills like hairdressing, Microsoft skills, etc. skills that will kickstart their motivation to contributing towards society in a positive manner when they do get released. I believe this is the best kind of atmosphere to really turn around someone’s life. No physical punishment, abuse, torturing. Just confinement, work and positive reinforcement.
@ZebraFacts
@ZebraFacts 2 жыл бұрын
I am a bit conflicted with this system of punishment and correction. Those two things are very important but there must be a harsher third element to imprisonment. Deterrent. If the worst that can happen to bad people is being confined, I'm not sure that in itself may not be enough to make someone take pause before committing a crime to begin with.
@ohsehun6470

It is clean because most inmates spend 23hrs/day in the cell. With limited number of books that can be in ur cell, u tend to want to find things to do to past time. For me and my cellmates, we used to wash up the whole cell aft lunch everyday with soap and water not only to maintain cleanliness and hygiene but also to past our time easier. In fact, we can take 2hrs just to wash one cell which houses 4inmates.

it’s great that the officers are engaging nicely with the inmates and not treating them badly. Being in there and not seeing the outside world can be depressing. People make poor choices in life but they’re still human beings.

I find this an excellent example of how, despite the strict restrictions and regulation of Singapore, people still make mistakes: but instead of being inhibited to receive the help you never thought you needed; freedom to keep your individuality; and never heard, here we have people who care about the welfare of the incarcerated and the people outside who may be related or unrelated to these detained persons who make up a system with positive, progressive goals and objectives.

Having lived in Singapore for the past 14 years, I can say: 1) no country or government, including Singapore, is perfect; and 2) the circumstances and conditions between Singapore and my country are very different; but there's so much my country could learn from this. Humane/humanity.

@@Tendummiez69420 And my country separates children from their parents and puts them in cages; invades sovereign countries; lets citizens die without healthcare; enables a madman to run roughshod over our constitution without reigning him in; and the list goes on. The point here is what Sʻpore is doing to try to rehabilitate these people.

This is a huge difference from the prisons here in the United States. Here in the U.S. there is screaming and shouting, fighting, stabbing all kinds of violence. This prison is calm, quiet , the inmates are respectful. The guards are nice and kind. Big difference.

I wish that it could be like this in the states maybe someplace where inmates go before they are able to go home, so it can slowly get them use to not always having to be on their guard. That way the transition from incarceration to being free could possibly be smoother. At this time they can have more access to being able to get a job and already sign up for other support groups etc. They need to experience a calm environment before they are released. Like maybe their last year of incarceration could be at a facility that is similar to that.

"During the first few weeks, prisoners must spend 23 hours in their cell to reflect on past actions. They can use the remaining 1 hour to use the iKiosk to checkup on administrative requests" - That has got to be the most Singaporean way to run a women's prison... The only way you could make this more Singaporean is if inmates can use the iKiosk to write formal complaints directly to members of parliament.

You forgot to censor one prisoner face and I could clearly see her face. Do note and censor it. Then re-upload. On TV ppl might just see for few second. Online anyone can pause or head back. I think prisoner deserve second chance but not everyone is accepting. I will not pinpoint where in case anyone go and take a Ss.
