My father beat me so savagely when drunk that I was literally cover in black and blue marks. I was 7 or 8. I will never be normal as a result of it. I am often suicidal. That was 45 years ago. Please don't beat your children.

One drug test isn’t enough. Notice the neglected child’s food insecurity. Then child curled up as small as possible and covering his face didn’t want his father called. So many indicators.

I think he just didn't want to worry his father because it seemed like they had a good relationship, it also seemed like cps was willing to leave the children with but because of his work ours it wouldn't be possible. I feel bad for the kids and the dad

They are easy to pass as well. I did for years using sadly- even the so called supervised ones- they have a kit for that too. It’s sick what addicts will do to pass them. I honestly don’t think many workers know or understand much about fake urine or urine kits... I never hear them say “well one negetive doesn’t mean they aren’t using let’s do a hair sample or blood sample to be sure” when they are suspected of drugs and pass... red flags all over. I would make such a good social worker with my experiences but I can’t deal with neglect at all. I would kick the door in and kidnap the kids instead of filing paperwork and follow ups. So yeah: I may be a recovered addict but I never abused a child. And I never will.

Side note, The father that was accused of abusing his wife, when asked why did he push her...his response was “she’s the type of person..”. Can we just take that in for a second. A man. That is accused of abusing his wife. When asked. About abusing her. JUSTIFIES IT. And bLAMES HER. I am very scared about that situation. I pray that the wife is safe.

The conventional view is that parents are the best suited to take care of their children due to maternal/paternal instinct born from human biology and societal expectation from social psychology; but such assumption do not hold true in all cases. 3) So when governments put parents in jail they are not separated from their kids? 4 [related to 3]) Generally when parents commit crimes they should be punished, but the world is full of unprosecuted criminals. Our justice system simply cannot prosecute and process every single crime, there may be cases where the parents' crime is insufficient for institutionalization but still disqualify them as proper childcare givers. 5) How dare you curse them with death, you are a horrible human being that "should be killed" so that you do not harm others.

I was shocked when they were so hungry and hadn't eaten all day, and probably many days before that, CPS went out and got McDonald's for them !! Geez - get them some healthy food that will help to re-energize their bodies and make their tummies feel full at least overnight. Coke and fries before bed is not a good choice

@@leeleybanna6126 You can fact check me, but from what I've learned, short sprints of starvation can lead to your body turning anything that isn't used quickly into fat more than normal. It's so you have more fat to burn during the periods of starvation. You don't become "skin and bones" till you're not eating hardly more than scraps. When there's not even enough food to even store as fat.

I've been hit by my father and been told bad stuff, being angry at me sometimes. But not beaten as abusive hit. As of being hit I remember max 1 hit like a slap each time and maybe i've been hit 4-5 times in my life and alot of anger towards me for some mistakes. I would lie because I love my family and some hit doesn't bother me much. I literally forgot about them shortly. Like usually after being hit I went to sleep and when I woke up it was laughing again. Now I'm old. I love my family and I have respect. Even tho I disagree alot with my dad and I wouldn't do what he did. I would say if child protection would take us away from my parents I would be devestated and that would be the ultimate abuse. Now maybe some says but some have it way worse in form of abuse. Yeah 100% but it doesn't change the fact that both the government and society would actually force me into child protection back then if they ever found out. That's my issue. That's abusive towards the family and the children. Child care is needed when it's it's consistent abuse, drugs involved, harsh beating or day in and out screaming. The toughest one is a parent who hates their child that one cannot be fixed easily and drug addict parents. For the rest, the government should have clear watch on parents and educate them so very soon maybe they can be with their child again not just totally ignore as if it shall be a permanent change or atlesat until the kids are 18+.

I've seen kids come in covered in fleas and with head trauma from being beaten and 4 year olds still nursing on mom..... I fell victim to vindictive behaviors of someone and they kept calling Child Protective Services on me. They told them my children are living without basic necessities, such as food, shelter etc. My fridge, freezer, cupboards and pantry are packed full. They opened and closed the case the same day. Sometimes a lot of these calls are false information and what people do not understand is that they are taking away time and resources from children and families who truly need them. Just because you do not like someone, do not call CPS and try to break apart a family!! It's sick and not to mention it is illegal as some have found out!

I called CPS several times about this child I've seen in my last school in the Special Needs, nothing happened. She had bruises, she was sooo skinny, and she always had bugs crawling on her. They said that she gets fed at home so she's ok and never went back to check on her. Dani was "accidentally" run over by her parents car 3 months later... so sad how some children are looked over or can't get the attention needed by officers

@@eightfoottallman sometimes it's not even about hunger. My mother has an eating disorder rooted in her childhood trauma being neglected and not having food security. When her episode comes, we have to tell her to stop eating because "My stomach sometimes feels like a bottomless pit," and she can't feel full at all. Thankfully it was far and few in between, but I can't imagine how hard it is to be my mom.

Sometimes when children don’t want to eat, avoid certain food or being restrictive, it can be an eating disorder too or something else . I think there can be many reasons. They might not want the children in order to love and care for them, but they might want the children as possessions. They might see them as things to play with and to let out frustrations on. They might enjoy manipulating them and using them. They might even just like to uphold the pretense of a happy family, and they need the children at home so that neighbours and family will think they're a normal family. Psychologically, they probably don't want to admit to being bad parents because they don't want to have a negative self-image, they want to continue to think of themselves as powerful and justified in their actions.

I don't think that's really true. I've heard a lot of stories about "good families" being "attacked". When you I dig a little deeper, the parent with the sob story usually isn't being totally honest or didn't comply with court ordered drug tests or something.

Unfortunately, there's very little oversight in family courts and people aren't afforded rights like they are in other types of court (general sessions, traffic, criminal, etc)

I mean if you have to get licensed to drive and be old enough to vote, surely we can't just allow gambling of another life? I don't think they had child protective service when I was a young child, the teachers were told to just look away when they saw the bruises on me. I had two concussions in a year, my father would beat me with a belt for 15 mins and I was not aloud to cry, my back was bruised from my neck to the middle of my back. The most painful was the emotional abuse my mom loved to be cruel, harsh, and mean. giving my sister the best treatment while telling me I was stupid and that she hated me and wished I was never born.

If your disabilities are minor/ you can still move you should try foster care. Those kids need a person like you to love and care for them. The government also provides you with money to take care of them so you don't need lots of money to take care of them.My friend was a foster and she said anything was better than being in an adoption center or her abusive home.

Word of Advice: Be very careful when children tell you things, because sometimes they might mistake their words or take something that isn't abuse as abuse. An example of what a mother told me recently: She has a child with Autism who was recently taught at his school along with is classmates who to talk too if they feel they are being abused. One day his mother refused to give him sweets, so he told the school he was being abuse, causing a visit from social services to the school along with teachers as the mother had to come in and sort out the situation. Luckily for her, the boy revealed it was because his mother didn't give him sweets that he felt abused. Nothing happened after that. Another example is what happened in my place of work: I work with very young children (ages 0-3 years). I witnessed a little boy gently tap onto a little girl's arm. She was perfectly fine and didn't show an signs of distress. The following day, when her father dropped her off, he explained that his daughter had told him a child was "breaking her arm". I explained what I witnessed as my boss had to explain to the father how some children around that age can make over-the-top stories of what really happened. I'm not trying to suggest don't believe everything a child says, but make sure you always get the facts from other resources before making a judgement. It's never the children's fault if what they say isn't 100% true, sometimes they can feel scared when put on the spot light or get confused by their own story or mix their words up.

That’s why you watch the child. Their mannerisms and the way they hold themselves. Many that are abused try to hide from the spotlight or lash out in anger or frustration. There is no in between most of the time. The ones that are raised in a loving and secure environment are confident and outgoing or bashful. I was abused growing up. I wanted to hide and never wanted to be seen or noticed. My husband was also abused and he lashed out onto others.

I had been sewing all of the previous weekend and was explaining why he wasn't to touch any sewing supplies. And not even a month ago, I had DSS at my door saying that there was an accusation of me locking my kids in their rooms all day. I showed them that their doors don't have locks, and explained that when a child says 'yeah I hate having to stay in my room all day' during a PANDEMIC where we are in LOCK DOWN, they should probably consider that it's not the parents making them stay home lol. That's the one issue I have with this show so far.... They have entered every situation with the intent of PROVING guilt, not the intent of investigating the situation. It's a major flaw in the entire DCFS/CPS/DCF model, and apparently it happens all over the world, not just in the US!

This is true, its very important to be educated with this knowledge when being confronted by a young child with any sort of accusations. My grandmother use to work as a Headstart Teacher as well as a Family Social Worker and she was told me how she was trained into not ever asking certain questions if a child is trying to communicate something to you that may sound abusive or neglectful. She also told me some stories where innocent people had there lives turned upside down due to a child saying something had happened one way when in fact there was an innocent explanation. Its very scary how easily something crazy can happen based of miscommunication or not investigating thoroughly.

My brother was 7 when he said he was ganna jump of a bridge and die. He said that cuz he wanted attention and heard about it somewhere so we were investigated. My mom was watching a movie and sent 1 audio clip from it and we got investigated. Iam convinced that school bring more harms to students nowadays. When I was a kid, I was bullied severely and a lot of teachers witnessed how they exclude me, how I cry because I cant stand it, how I keep circling the canteen and didn't eat everyday because I was afraid to sit alone and get bullied... All at 9 years old. They done nothing. And as far as I can remember, troubled kids are severely yelled at, the teachers get so much glee abusing these 'troubled' kids. It's different in the US. CPS in the US is significantly under-funded, their officers way overworked (although I'm absolutely not excusing the case worker who worked on Gabriel's case). Overall, they also have many times the caseload (the end of that documentary mentioned that as many as 6M children are suspected of being abused in the US ... That's approx 1.8% of their population. An equivalent number for Singapore would be about 108,000 abused children - a population we're almost guaranteed not to have). That said, I absolutely agree that the US CPS system is in dire need of reform. They can start with consolidation of systems across states to make one national body implementing consistent standards and practices, followed by a complete overhaul of corrupt leaderships. But this is all but a pipe dream, and nothing will truly change there until they reform their corrupt politics to begin with. Their democracy is not a democracy at all.

I myself has experienced/saw physical and mental abuse when i was a child. The trauma to a child will still remain even if they grew up. I for one, think of myself as a lost soul but need to keep fighting to live and survive. I may have not been removed from my parents. I am from an Asian background and it was taboo to expose child abuse, as it was never recognised as such. I had a parent who was clinically depressed as a result of her childhood and took her frustrations out on us every single day. There was not one day of either verbal of physical abuse when we were young and this continued into our early adulthood. Now they are unable to be physical with us but the verbal abuse still continues. I am a product of my experiences of abuse, it really does destroy your self esteem and confidence to be ' normal'.

I grew up in a very abusive household. It affected my school work, it affected my sleep, it affected me in more ways than I could ever explain. I used to wish some nice person would "save me." I tried calling the cops.. that made things worse. I tried running away, starting at age 4 .. I realize now how lucky I was that I did not get abducted and end up in an even worse situation. Luckily, nothing major happened. After my teacher saw all the dried up blood, I was sent to another person's house to be fostered. What did I learn? I was saved and it was never Always my fault. I would never be Enough for her. Of course I was not perfect, I might have done wrongs, but at 29 years old now. I know I am not "nothing" and that even though we are never sarcastically enough for our asian parents, it is not right for my mom to beat me with a big ass wooden broom because I didnt wash dishes as soon as I got home. I am not invalidating your suffering, and theres good and bad. In my case it was life saving mostly Mentally.

I was a victim of child abuse when i was five. My father tried to break my neck out of frustration from a fight with my mother. He was often abusive to me, my older sister and my mother. But i was always the main source to his abuse as my older sister wasn't as much as a target and my mother. Hit hit my mum with his car when i was still in her stomach. Until this day sometimes i have to be hidden because of the threats he still sends my mother. Even with warrants against him he still doesn't care.

You probably have never met a Muslim before. There is no age limit to education, especially in Islam. Muslims believe that the first few lines of the Quran that were sent down are ones that encourage people to read, learn and seek knowledge. The prophet Muhammad SAW's children (all daughters) were all educated. I myself am a Muslim, I wear the hijab and observe Muslim practices, and I am in my twenties in college, getting an education. There are some ridiculous extremists that prohibit this and that for the people who believe, but this is not anything that is connected to the Quran or the religion. If you were to look into it, you would find that there is no verse in the Quran that specifies that "girls should not be educated" or that their education stops only at the age of 12.

The thing is nobody will wanna take your child if you do the right thing by taking care of them. I've been through this before when I was young with an abusive dad but never had been taken away because my mum was there to ensure the officers that my dad will never hurt us. My mum was the sane one and she always making sure we get the education we needed. But we had times when dad pull us out of school because he doesn't want us to study, so the officers came looking for us and making sure my dad allows us to go school the next day. The officers job is to protect the vulnerable children who might be a potential to abuse and neglect, be responsible parents and no one will take your children away from you. I would rather to have CPOs like them than having the ones who involved in Gabriel Fernandez case in United States.

I remember running into a CPS lady as a 4 or 5 year old. It's one of my most vivid memories. The neighbors (duplex) herd my fathers abuse and called CPS having had enough. I was home alone at the time. No idea where my parents where, or where my siblings were. Completely open about how mean daddy was mean and how I ate at the neighbors. To be honest I have no childhood memories of eating at home meal until my parents divorce. CPS lady said she would be back and left-never came back. May I note at the time I was growth stunted and my favorite jacket was a 2T. She never asked me my age, not like I could have told her though. For many years there was signs of abuse but I never seen CPS again. Really wish they would have stepped in.

There's good and bad being a child protection worker I figured working hands on with the kids and supporting them while being away from their homes is what I'm keen on doing at the moment. I'm an adult survivor of severe child abuse. I remember DEFAC was used as a threat by my mother at many times. If us children made her mad, she would say that they would take us away. I understand how critical this work is and that you MUST get it right. This agency cannot be misused nor should its powers be abused. I pray for wisdom and insight for the case workers. I hope that others like myself can become advocates for abuse children because we know what's happening on their side of things. I hope that the workers can be cared for so that they don't become burned out or hardened because that's when it would be time to leave the field. I remember being those 2 boys at the beginning, I have a sister 5 years younger than me too and we were in a horrible home with the same reasons why they were taken out. I know the pain of wanting food and being scared, but I hid those feelings to protect my sister at the time, I made sure she didn't get hit or abused, fed as best as I could give her, bathe her, change her diapers while my mom and boyfriend were snorting meth. I was 8 years old at the time with a 3-year-old who isn't supposed to be in diapers anymore. I always had to step in when my mom would start parties, I took care of the whole household. It was horrible and tiring but I don't regret it bc my sister would never have had someone there for her and my mom would have never gotten help sooner. Who do I blame for it? Her boyfriend. He introduced her to it, so I blame him for everything. But the pain of being taken away still hurt. I was able to process the fact that my mom probably won't get better any time soon and that we won't be the same family as we were a year before she met her boyfriend. That sudden realization hurt so much when she said goodbye to me and my baby sister. I remember not crying at first like the boy in the video, I just smiled. I smiled and laughed like it was gonna be ok, to show my sister that it was fine to smile again. But the moment she left and I went to my room, I cried so hard for hours on end. I kept asking "Why did mommy listen to her boyfriend? Why can't I have a mommy? Why can't I have parents like everyone else?" and I kept on crying until eventually a few days later we were officially taken out of our home. I basically fought with the workers and tried hitting them with a lamp to not take me away, but probably bc I didn't fully understand what was going on with my mom and how harmful she was and is. After that, I didn't trust adults for 3 years. I slept with my sister in the same bed like I always had, held her close to me as I slept on the edge of the bed so that I know she is safe. A habit that I shouldn't have been experiencing that led to trust issues, anxiety, depression, and insomnia bc it scared me to death that if I fell asleep someone would hurt us. And then the promises she made that she'll get better, that she'll visit us. But she never did. I never blamed her for any actions bc most of it was on her boyfriend, it changed after I got older and realized that she was 25 and should have realized. The trauma that parents cause kids. Don't have kids at a young age, like a teenager or something. WAIT until you feel you are ready and can provide them with love and care. DON'T scare your kids and FEED them. Ofc everyone should know that but sometimes some people need to get it through their thick skull like my mom and her boyfriend (pls don't take offense but it just saddens me that children have to go through this like how I did, and having parents who have thick skulls that don't think twice) Children shouldn't have to have trust issues around childhood years, let alone depression, insomnia, eating disorders, etc. They should be playing with other kids, BEING a kid themselves, eating and sleeping healthier. God some parents/adults are just not meant to have kids, either foster care parents or parents in general

did you managed to ever talk to you again? Honestly, to me 25 is young to have a child. My sis have a kid at 24 if im right (we are not close at all). She married a drug user, and Im pretty sure the toddler is autistic since she cant talk at 3 years old, not even a word, potty by herself and exhibit a lot of autistic behaviors. I wish I can say that I helped her, but to be honest, my family is not doing financially good, And Im just 20 years old thats on my way to get my degree. I dont think I can even tell my parents that their grand daughter is a autistic since not only then they have to use a lot of money for her therapies, but also because being autistic is hugely frowned upon here. I probably ruin the kid's life if I tell everyone that's shes autistic. Honestly, im not even sure. Sometime I hear my sis yelling at her own kid. I mean.. Why get pregnant when you don't want a kid then???

Why would you separate children from their siblings? WHY? Siblings should live together. It's good to help children but the siblings did nothing to each other so why are they being separated and not being put in the same home?

I saw my CPO in this and just started crying, I wish I could reveal so much more to them but sometimes the fear of parents, people’s opinions and dignity/face just forces you to keep quiet
