Making it through the auditions with entertainment agency Star Road Entertainment was just the beginning, though, of a tough road filled with sweat, tears, diets and gruelling training. And no guarantee of a debut.
Star Road Entertainment manages K-Pop duo JBJ95, Kenta Takada and Kim Sang-Gyun.

Manisha Bhaittrai With the agency it’s basically a whole team, who publishes the music and gives themes and what not. Even in holly wood to get famous you need to have a label to publish the music. Without an agency or team you might not be successful, at least in Korea. In the US idk

That's why idol's and trainee's deserve respect, we have to support them because their the ones who are putting all the work in, they're the ones who are sacrificing youth and freedom, we have to treat them with compassion, and maybe in the future when Kpop gains more exposure in the western, companies can change too.

I know, I think it’s quite sad really. People shouldn’t need to suffer this much to be happy. I mean gosh yeah they’re beautiful and I really like how they look, but I would never do that cause I think u should love yourself. And if you wanna become a famous singer there are others ways, I mean, look at Adele she doesn’t have a perfect body or anything but me and a huge amount of people love her for her voice and creative ideas. Or even Billie Eilish. She’s my favorite artist for her voice and songs and the fact that she is not perfect and has her own problems and that she is super honest about it just makes me admire her more.
@Emma.Leclerc
@Emma.Leclerc 4 жыл бұрын
It’s also so sad when you realise how little money they get from it. I remember a while ago seeing the breakdown of SM Entertainment’s income, and I can’t remember seeing a good amount going to the idols. Some amazing music and talent comes out of Kpop, but it is heartbreaking knowing what harsh treatment is behind it all. There’s so much that we don’t see that goes on behind it all, and I understand that there is bad in many industries across the world, but things hit harder when you see or hear of it - it really brings it back to reality. I wish people could do what they love with the talent they have, and not be pushed over the brink to fit a particular structure or mould. It’s like some forget that they are people and not just idols to be trained and make a name of the companies.

Shirley Cameron dont say dumb and stupid. It’s really disgraceful. Koreans have insecurities that they would change anything to make their insecurities patched up.
@orphanbobby7130
@orphanbobby7130 5 жыл бұрын
Shirley Cameron k firstly, it’s not dumb and stupid if being an idol is really what they want. There’s a lot of pressure, of course, and they are overworked, but when they debut, they’re happy. Secondly, the different hair colours are the concepts for the songs and albums. No one is being tortured with hair dye, it’s not a bad thing despite dying hair endlessly will damage their natural hair. Lastly, most of them go through hard times. It’s a lot of pressure being a trainee and hard work must be put into it. Although some are insecure, many are confident and they encourage others. Being insecure doesn’t lead others into being insecure.
@orphanbobby7130
@orphanbobby7130 5 жыл бұрын
Shirley Cameron you probably don’t think it’s worth the hard work because being an idol isn’t your dream. But many young people are happy when they sing, dance, and perform. The job that you want, the dream that you want, what you want to do in life, are you willing to work hard for it? If you are, then you’re just like those trainees. They think it’s worth it because they’re grasping at their dreams, and you will too, when you’re in the process of grabbing ahold of your dream

As someone who did ballet. Yes pushing a person down for splits is a thing but WITHIN REASON! Yes we push splits down because it is ballet but we also DONT WANT TO HURT THEM! If the dancer is screaming out of pain YOU STOP! You do it again later in their own pace that doesn’t damage the dancer! The way the instructor literally dragged Mizuho could damage her ham strings and damage her leg muscles! This can even lead to permanent damage! Yes push your dancers for them to become better. But not in the method where it physically damages them! Also emotionally too! This is disgusting.

Exactly! I'm not a dancer; I'm a classically trained singer, but it's the same with us...We never push the voice beyond what it can handle. If you feel pain, it means something is wrong and forcing yourself to sing in such a way can lead to permanent damage. Our bodies are our instruments. We have to treat it with respect.

Many foreigners want to become idols, but in Korea, when selecting foreign idols, most Asian people are cast (Japanese and Chinese), or if they are Korean like Rosé, but their nationality is New Zealand. In Thailand, people with white faces are usually cast. (Minnie, Lisa, for example) And mixed blood is possible. It is actually difficult to debut as an idol in Korea unless you are particularly good at singing. You have to be fluent in Korean. There are many people who want to be an idol in Korea, so it is highly competitive.This is the reality

I am a Korean, and I have an older sister who is a trainee in Korea. Of course, to be an idol, you have to be good at dancing and singing. Since there are many aspiring idol groups, it is also true that competition is very fierce. However, it is exaggerated to be so torturous. Most trainees say they are tired but happy to do what they want to do. It's just some small and medium-sized agencies that train in a foreign country like that way. If you think most idols are like that, it's a misunderstanding. I want a lot of people to know about this.

Even though hwasa is considered "curvy", it doesn't change the fact from the beginning of her career (since her debut with mamamoo) she was also under 50kg, up until more recently in the past couple years. She looks more curvier than she actually is because of her height, she's only 5'3 and rumoured to be even shorter. Her official weight is released as 43kg (So yeah she is hella thin, but the sadder part is that in comparison, everyone else is even thinner). Even though I’m a Kpop Fan, I don’t support the way they train idols. I understand they need intense physical training. However, the instructors shouldn’t mentally break the trainees by spewing harsh words such “you don’t deserve to debut”, “you will never be an idol”, etc. These words which may seem to make a person tough, is actually doing the opposite. These trainees have feelings too, and harsh words won’t make them tough, it will hurt them. These painful words we say at another person could lead to their depression, or worse, suicide. These instructors (as well as us) must be mindful of what they say, since words can really affect a person. Yes, these idols need training, but positive reinforcement is the better way to go.

I agree on this on a personal and emotional level. I am diagnosed with Depression, I'm a perfectionist and I don't take harsh criticism very well because I feel like I'm not trying hard enough when I would practically feel like passing out when practicing. When I'm told something harsh, I seem unbothered until I go behind closed doors. I cry until I fall asleep or continue practicing non-stop until I am 100% sure there are NO mistakes. It's extremely difficult to live up to others expectations in idol life and real life in general, however the harsh training doesn't change my mind. I want to be an idol and I won't stop until I achieve it, even if I can't feel my legs by the end of the day.

I both agree and disagree with this. I know that giving really harsh comments to your trainees is just going to make them think that they're not good enough and will lower their esteem, and it's really seems like an unreasonable way to treat trainees (some of them being like, 15?? Which, if you're gonna give such harsh comments to a 15 year old, that's definitely gonna screw them up), but at the same time, her comments are literally nothing compared to antis, she's also mentally preparing them for the amount of hate they're going to receive after they debut.

Huge Weeb Yup! Feel free to speak your mind :) She could be mentally “preparing” the trainees, but in my opinion, I think she’s preparing them in an improper manner. No one teaches a person how painful getting burned is by burning him/her with fire. Just like that, you shouldn’t prepare a person for harsh remarks by being harsh with him/her. Anyway, thanks for your opinion!

Because clearly that money wont go into supporting the idols. Remember tvxq they were so successful but then they sued their company cuz they barly made any money. Its until they respect their artist that I'll support I.e. stan them. And let's not forget most those trainees are kids and imagine them treating kids like that? Its child abuse and their okay with that.

@Chuck Nourrizzz there are so many trainees who want to become an idol and to have successful career as idol. It's normal that they compete hard. It's not possible for all the trainees to succeed as idol. To be frank, other domains are not different. You can eanr much money like Bill gates? Is it easy to become a doctor or lawyer who have successful careers in your country? Nobody forced trainees to keep practicing to become an idol. That's their choice. Dreams can't be easily realized.
