Don’t they separate recycling pick-up in Corona Del Mar? Big not, I thought it was mandatory by the State.

Yes, all of the trash was sorted through for recyclables and any possible clean green waste material, per state requirement. As of today, Newport Beach is now collected by the private hauler, CR&R Inc., that would sort their waste. The differences are that CR&R is using automated trucks & barrels; and per current agreement with the city, offers a voluntary source-separated recycling program. Following the transition to automated collection in Spring / Summer 2014, only 16% of residents chose to use a separate recycle barrel. But that number has been increasing little by little over the years, so it wouldn't surprise me if the city finally decides to make the switch to the industry standard 3-can system (recycle, green waste/organics, landfill) in the future.
