It's not complicated. He gets a small amount of money from the profits after they're allocated to future operations and inventory. It takes a long time to get that money back. The royalty deal gets him back his money faster and the way he limits the royalty also allows him to recover what he paid for the share and allow enough room for the business to grow. Kevin does royalty deals when he can get a big flat cut per unit each time and usually takes a large risk.
