About The Profit:
When Marcus Lemonis isn’t running his multi-billion dollar company, Camping World, he goes on the hunt for struggling businesses that are desperate for cash and ripe for a deal. In each one-hour episode of The Profit, Lemonis makes an offer that’s impossible to refuse; his cash for a piece of the business and a percentage of the profits. And once inside these companies, he’ll do almost anything to save the business and make himself a profit; even if it means firing the president, promoting the secretary or doing the work himself.

so you would rather own 100% of a business with a negative balance sheet, rather than 50% of a multi-million dollar business with 6-digit annual profits. Hmm, these folks want charity, not an investor.

im not saying this happened, but - wouldnt it be a sick play to just bring this show in, get the free publicity, get lemonis to drop his plan to turn the place around, then just appear to act stubborn so that he walks away and you keep your equity, crazy publicity, and have an amazing plan that he spilled? Seems more logical to me actually.

I'm surprised to see so many comments about Marcus not treating these business owners fairly. Let's be clear: He is investing in quite a few failures. These people's businesses many times are arguably worth almost nothing. Others have dreams but no expertise or capital to achieve them. He isnt a passive investor, he's working and helping, and that's worth a lot of money when your hourly is most people's weekly paycheck.

Let;s all remember the name of the show, "The Profit" A lot of people criticize Marcus Lemonis for his deals and the share of the company he wants to take for his investment, but If the goal of was to only help people with no financial gain, the name of the show would have to be "The Charity"!

Yeah I get "the profit" concept. It's the severe "dilution" of owners and partners that comes afterwards. Marcus is clearly building a strong portfolio of mom and pop businesses. No love for camping world.

I agree. Most people don't pay attention to the negotiations obviously or they wouldn't be talking about the amount of the company Marcus gets. Most of the company's are literally months From going out of business ,making great revenue yet still losing a ton, many never made a profit. Yeah it pays for people to actually pay attention to the negotiations and hearing the companies situations and financials. They don't realize Marcus many times have put in more money on top of his agreed amount.

Anyone who empathized with the behavior Tony demonstrated must themselves exhibit that behavior, and if it's not obvious to you that he is a walking disaster, then you shouldn't start a business. I would've stepped out on being his partner on day one. Excuses, excuses, and he's partying in the background. No doubt about it. I've tried to work projects with users. Never again, and I'll never be jived by them again either. Marcus must have been aware of this. He just didn't want to expose it on tv.

He wanted to build a franchise model, and obviously needed massive help to do that. 100k is a lot of money , and the time and effort required would be significant, how fast would YOU want your hard earned money back if you put 100k into a business? Not only that, you want to make a RETURN on your investment, you want to wait 10 years for that? There is a risk/reward ratio that has to be appealing for the investor and the investee . In this case you have a guy who would rather walkaround with a 10k watch , rather than do what needs to be done to improve his own business, HUGE red flag. This guy was not investable frankly, and is delusional about his franchise model. He can barely run a food truck, let alone a national franchise model. That being said he can make a decent living with one profitable food truck as long as he gets his priorities right.
@ddubsr5886
@ddubsr5886 4 жыл бұрын
kw1213 I agree with everything your saying. I still think $100k is not enough. You heard at the beginning that the margins are phenomenal. It wouldn’t take much to make this thing launch. He had a cluttered warehouse boohoo. I think the owner did a fantastic job on not being cheap about the paint job on his truck. That’s what customers see and it looked clean so I’d buy his product. Yes he had some questionable decision making skills (or lack there of) but with a slight adjustment in course he would be fine. I think for the right price he would have worked hard to make the needed changes but as he correctly said $100k for 40% is a joke. Marcus was greedy

60% of a watermelon is better than 100% of a grape. This guy clearly was not smart enough to get a franchise off the ground himself. He was paying for knowledge.
@kw1213
@kw1213 4 жыл бұрын
@@ddubsr5886 The thing is 100k isn't a number that was pulled out of a hat. Based on this short video we have no idea of knowing if it was "fair" or not. That number is based on what the business is worth today, including assets , profitability and also possible debt. And obviously he is paying for the expertise that he needs to create a franchise model that works and that comes at a price. You gotta also realise that the only way the investor gets money back here is by selling the franchise model way down the road, or by taking profits from the business on a yearly basis. But how much profit does the business actually generate after paying everyone ? And can it afford to return a portion of that to the investor? And how much? How many years down the road does the investor actually get to see a profit ? Not to mention, this guy is not a viable business partner because his ego doesn't allow him to learn from a more experienced business person. And I ll restate , that the fact he didn't invest in more freezers when the guys is running an ice cream business demonstrates a huge lack of common sense. It's like starting a pizza business and having only one small oven, while wearing a rolex...He must've made some other terrible investments in real estate also for him to be forced back into the ice cream business.
