I'm all for diversity in the work place, but don't for a second think that H1B visa workers don't take their knowledge back to their respective countries, and use it to build new companies which may go on to compete with American companies. In most cases, that's a good thing because it's beneficial for the world. But AI is different, and should be treated differently.

This is obviously stupid. The leading Chinese company is on par with O1, but we have O3 already which smokes O1 and open AI has already announced. They’re working on the next model after O3.
@FrankieDaBat2 сағат бұрын
It’s fear mongering
@heyaisdabomb2 сағат бұрын
There's a lot of question of how good o3 really is. For one, the math test they keep using to say how good it is... Well it turns out it was trained on the questions and answers to that test, which is classic machine learning data leakage. If I give you the answers to the test, wouldn't I expect you to do well on the test? The other big point not mentioned in that R1 is open source, and costs pennies on the dollar to run than o1. The cost savings alone are huge from a business standpoint. This will enable all manners of new applications.
@heyaisdabomb2 сағат бұрын
Also, 4o is really old at this point. Most flagship models, including DeepSeeks v3, are beating it. Yea, we'll get o3, but where is GPT-5? Also, R1 uses a different reasoning algorithm than o1. Which algorithm will progress better in future iterations is unknown at this point.
@FrankieDaBat2 сағат бұрын
@ so a couple of things. If it was so simple to just memorize all the answers on that test all the other models would be mailing it to. But that is not the case also, when it comes to this race, it doesn’t matter how cheap it is all that matters is who gets to ASI first. Having the better model is everything. Cost is important to some of the players, but the big players in America cost is not a problem. It is simply about how smart the actual model is, which China doesn’t seem to be making any breakthroughs in that department just cost and how fast they can copy American models
