Chris, a friend sent me the link to this video. I just purchased a used Shark machine and have been setting it up in my shop. I have done everything you talked about in this video. i have replaceable tables, a drawer to storage and a pendent station for the control box. I was able to tie into my Clear Vue dust system and pull dust from the router and the back of the table. Thank you for reinforcing all my ideas for upgrades. You and I are on the same page. I have subscribed to you channel and look forward to watching additional videos. As a side comment, I worked for a machine tool builder located in Cincinnati in the early 1970s. A N/C control system was the size of a frig and costs $100,000. The largest machine we built and shipped was sized as X = 60 feet, Y = 38 feet high and the Z axis was 84" long. I never thought I would own a CNC machine in my shop.

Thanks for writing in Keith! I can't quite get my head wrapped around a cnc machine that is so large as to have 60 ft x 38 ft x 7 ft format size. Wow! It is amazing to see industrial sized equipment in action and know it's the same basic operations and concepts as with our hobby machines. I would love to see a picture of the router center you built for your Shark - particularly how you have dealt with dust collection.

The dust collection was easy. I tapped into my 6” PVC pipe with a homemade saddle block and attached a 2” shop vac hose to it and the router shoe. The 6” blue vent system on the back of the router system is original to the lathe parallel to the router. I just roll the router away to use the lathe. The same machine tool company built VTLs (Vertical Turning Lathes) The smallest machine chuck we shipped was 42” on dia. The largest VTL we shipped the chuck was 16’ on dia. I'm trying to send you pictures of my dust collection setup but do not know how. Do I send them to your email address or some how attach them to this chain?

Chris, I have had strange things happen to me also running my homebuilt CNC router. Machine would go crazy. Turned out to be point bounce in the cheap micro switches used for limits when vibrations from heavy cut. Love your show. Carl

Thanks for watching! Every machine in the room has had some moment of craziness, most recently the Inventables Pro, just stopped mid-cut and went back to 0,0,0. I ran it again without the Fein vacuum cleaner on for dust pick up and had no troubles. The hose is grounded though. So, might be the vac but the ghosts are hard to find sometimes.

I would love to see a variety of dust collection solutions. I made a simple shoe like your's but would also like to improve it. I'd really like one that telescopes up and down so the brush isn't being totally crushed into the work area during deep cuts. Thanks for continuing to produce videos in this series. I always look forward to the latest videos and get a lot of good ideas for projects on my CNC.

I agree that a dust shoe that telescopes would be much better. There just isn't much to attach to with these small machines - but there must be a way - let's think on it!
