A pair of angular contact bearings opposite one another is normally what machine-tool builders use in higher-end blocks.

I used those same Enduro bearings with a spacer for my machine, but I also used a stack of Belleville washers under the nut to make it easier to set the preload. Also I've got two ballnuts back to back on each ballscrew again using stacks of Belleville washers to preload them against eachother. I've used it a lot over the last year and a half and still no backlash 😎

​@Loopyengineeringco Hi i work in bicycle shop. Enduro bearing with "MAX" in the name, they are not designed for full rotation, only up to approximately 45°.

Quality thrust bearing assembly comes with angular contact bearings . Cheap Chinese copies use cheap bearings as they are a clone not engineered.

Could you put an actual thrust bearing in there?

Yep you could: it would be the best thing for purely thrust loads but you might have a bit of radial play and eventually radial wear if you're using belts and pulleys with a bit of tension like I have

where did you get the bearing from

www.wychbearings.co.uk in the UK. They were 7001-2RS MAX Enduro Angular Contact Bearing 12x28x8. Not ultra precision or anything fancy, but theyre doing a great job 👍

they do make 4 point contact angular bearings that are good for load in both directions. fyi
