It can cut steel so yes it should be able to.

There's not really any particular reason, just experimenting with different cutters. I have some 3 flutes too, will be interesting to see how the increased rigidity from additional core diameter affects the cutting...

They were from China via eBay. I wouldn't recommend them unless you can find a way to hold them down without reducing travel though, they bend up all the time. If you can find a way to cover the ball screws there is another design that just cover the rails which would probably be better.
