In this update video I included some general workshop footage and machining of the bracket for the Stepper motor and also the ballscrew nut mount. A made a couple small silly errors which were easily corrected.
At the end of the video I show the stepper turning the Z axis for the very first time.

Hello. I also belong to the Myford group in FB. Can you post on every video total spent on parts so far? I would like to do something similar to this to my S7. With the X axis you can get rid of the top crosslide to improve rigidity. Which software are you using? thank you and keep up the good work

Thanks for the comment. Yes, I am machining a solid tool post which will replace the obsolete compound slide and greatly improving rigidity. I was planning on talking through the entire cost in a future update video. Feel free to subscribe so see that In the near future!

I missed the 2nd part of your comment, I'm using the CNC12 software made by Centroid Acorn to pair with their electronics. It's conversational and I find it, so far, to be pleasant and fairly simple to use. I will be using it both for simple programming inside CNC12 but also importing code created withing Fusion360, which I've used for years and will utilise it for complex modelling before exporting the code to the Acorn software. Thanks

Sir, what is difference between servo and stepper motor, is stepper suitable for such operation?

Yes, stepper motors are perfectly fine for most home-shop CNC projects.

Are you going to fit limit switches to minimise crashes?

I may add switches, however as it stands I use software defined limits. Once the machine 'home' is set to a pre determined position (X+Z) at the start of booting the software, the system will then use the defined limit positions to stop a crash in any direction. (I.E the chuck, tailstock or extreme X positions) Therefor it is not possible to crash the carriage or tool into the chuck for instance. Of course, poor programming could cause a crash into the workpiece, but limit switches won't prevent that!.. ;-)
