With all of the CNC discussion, I hope folks are not forgetting the usefulness of the old machines in the manufacturing of low volume items, and the repair of individual items. One may not need to fill an order for a thousand valve bodies, but maybe just a hydraulic cylinder repaired, or a few bearing adapters. Watching Abom79 gives a good example of this. My auto shop is a teeny one man wheel alignment shop because there are plenty of folks that need their one problem solved by a seasoned craftsman. When I needed the kingpins refurbished on a customer's Avanti, I called the guy with the little machine shop at his house. I am looking at making my own wheel alignment shims for use and for sale. I might not need a CNC cutting table, but a drill press and metal shear. Using snips and a handheld drill is getting old. JMF The Alignment Guy (R) LLC

I take the opposite approach because I started in 3D Printing. Nothing is ever one off because I can take that g-code, that program and put it in my database with all the details I need. Filename, part number, material, amount of material per part, how many can I nest, time for one unit, time for a fully nested job, what you paid for one, etc... It goes into the library. If I think I can sell more of that part to more people, I'll wave my design/programming fee, list the part for sale where I can and make them to order. With the client's permission of course. Neat shop BTW.

Yes, keep the old tools around, just not the entire shop floor. I got the Monarch CK-12 from October 1943 squirreled away for small jobs and the occasional "feels good" therapy. However!! A CNC helical mill path makes up for an infinite drill inventory.

Coming from a manufacturing background in the UK (textiles) that got decimated in the 90's as everything started getting outsourced to Asia and watching all the knowledge getting washed down the drain I find this so inspirational! I have a small 4 axis cnc machine which I am learning to use as a hobby but I am having a blast. This stuff should be taught at school.

The most respected I can to you titan ,I believe fully in giving people the training and the second chance . I like you have been to prison and have worked my way to a new fantastic life ,I am a supervisor in a machine shop and love my work . I've watched a few of Titan's videos and stopped watching because it was all so overly dramatic. It was like those dumb reality shows. This video was real.. He wasn't making everything sound so dramatic and instead speaking from the heart and adding good into this world.. I have a whole new respect for him and I left thinking "How can I help?". We need more people like this.

What’s key here is that they brought progressive, cutting edge materials and training. It’s one thing to learn fabrication, but using outdated methods won’t get you hired anywhere.

Universities have relics in their machine shops today. I can send a photo if you like. The feedback from graduating engineers were scathing with regard to the ability to realize their capstone senior project designs because of the lack of prototyping tools. It's changing for the better now. I can't say for certain if all engineering colleges have access to good tools, or how engineering students for the last ten years dealt with this issue. If it were not for the Titans of CNC Academy, machinists would have to deal with designs that give little to no consideration to how parts are actually made.

You can't hate on a guy trying to enact change. We all are very judgmental and its easy for people to always say they shouldn't have done this or that. Thing is there are always shades of grey and we always ask for people to see those shades of grey when we are involved. This is great and as a country we need to start teaching skills to people. We also have to realize that not everyone is going to be a doctor or lawyer. This is doing what you can to help someone and even if it affects ONE person positively thats good enough.
