I think they made the right choice going with a hybrid system. Solid state batteries are still being developed and lithium batteries don’t have the energy density needed for flight. I think that will change in about a decade through.

I like their concept and using what looks like a small turbine engine to extend the range and payload. This is an idea I've talked to people about. Even a small weed eater motor driving a 500 amp alternator recharging a battery bank in flight would work quite well. Now they say this unit can carry 500 lbs so make a two place personal aircraft. Keep thinking ahead men.

At around 30s you said it can "land in and fifty square foot landing area." do you realise that is just over 7x7 feet ("49 square foot"). When making a video like this is is important to promote your facts correctly. 50 feet squared would indicate an area of 50x50ft, in other words "2500 square foot" and that is more likely what you are alluding to. The drone itself is far wider than 7'

So, it's a fuel heli/plane with electrique transmission (not really efficient). It looks cool but isn't really ground breaking. It applies to a very specific narrow market, need, to be by air but not quite helicopter, regulations with good reasons will make it complicated to operate a metric ton of metal with a fuel tank and a flamable battery that can fall from the sky.
@Scorpiogirl_10292 жыл бұрын
These cargo drones would definitely reduce a lot of CO2 in the air from delivery vans, trucks and other types of cars that are on the road today. Very impressive.
@oO0Xenos0Oo2 жыл бұрын
I dont think so. 500 pounds is not much at all. This can be carried by any car, no need for trucks. The benefit of it is beeing fast and needing no operator. Also as they sad it can work in remote areas with bad roads. But a small plane carriing just 500 pounds will not be more fuel efficient than cars and especially not trucks. You would need a fleet of 80 drones to replace one big Truck.
@Scorpiogirl_10292 жыл бұрын
@@oO0Xenos0Oo Good point. Stil pretty cool.
@Leo-sd3jt2 жыл бұрын
@@oO0Xenos0Oo Trucks are great for long distances. I think the idea is that trucks deliver the cargo to outside of a city hub. Then these drones can deliver multiple package to different distribution points within a city or to neighboring towns to sites where ground couriers will pick it up and do the last mile drop off. Also this is great for moving stuff from a warehouse to a distribution point. Trucks are not great for moving within a city. This is more of a cargo van that's not limited by traffic. I should look into whether these can land and take off vertically since they'll be quite limited in their take-off/landing spots if they can't.

@mrbamfo50002 жыл бұрын
Mail delivery issues are largely due to one party in congress trying to kill the post office for the last couple of decades. They made the post office front load their pension plan, nobody else has to do that, and it put them billions of dollars in the hole. Most people don't realize the post office isn't funded through government taxes, They're independent and funded by postal rates.. So if they're running huge deficits, there are only so many things you can do to right the ship. Rate hikes, aging infrastructure, slower delivery. It's a long term plan they're executing to get public opinion to become negative enough where they can privatize it. The same party has been running this same plan against the government since the 80s. When you're constantly demonizing the government and cutting funding for programs time and time again to where they finally get it where it doesn't function well they can advocate getting rid of it.
@Sela21252 жыл бұрын
I can see this being massively helpful in counties around the world where the road infrastructure is not as extensive as the US. There are many populations centers around the world that are virtually cut off from the main transit systems and this could help shorten the logistical issues that scenario presents. With a payload like that, depending on the cost, I can envision this being an early step in bringing communities in deeply isolated locations closer. Certainly it isn't a 100% solutions, there would be noise concerns, accounting for burning fuel and so on, but I'm glad to see this sort of innovation.
@matthewviramontes31312 жыл бұрын
This is cool, but it's not for your average delivery like pizza, groceries or packages. I'm a pizza delivery driver and I can tell you for a fact that most people don't have 50 square feet of open space for this thing to land. Even on streets sometimes there's not space because cars are parked there or it's a thin road.
@frankreynolds99302 жыл бұрын
Well this doesn't do individual deliveries so doesn't matter if people have space or not, it's being used for warehouse hub delivery.
