The gasoline version of the civic around that time was about 300 miles. I used to own one. Not 500 as the video states. So you’re not losing that much range.

I'm looking into Converting my '97 Chevy 1500 to CNG or get a small 4banger to convert to CNG, I'm hoping that in time we can get cars that can run 600miles on a tank. But if you are interested in converting an holder car to CNG you might have to replace the Engine with a Flex engine because CNG burns hotter than normal fuel.

Cng is great if the price can come down, and is much cleaner than electric that requires coal fired power plants to generate electricity. Just have to make sure you have extra heavy duty valve seats engineered into your car so to handle combustion properly.

We used this in Brazil, but the way we do conversion we keep the gasoline/ethanol tank/compatibility so we can use any fuel available. But nowadays in my state (Rio de Janeiro) is cheaper to use ethanol than CNG (called GNV here.

I want to CNG/propane convert a Prius Prime so it is technically six (or five, if Priuses aren't flexfuel) fuel: hydro (electric), gasoline (petrol, benzine), ethanol (if flexfuel), CNG, biomethane, and propane.

Why can't use a small one day use CNG cylinder which I would fill every night at the Phill unit in my garage? I have NG in my house. This would the same as a Chevy Cruze electric which gives a range of about 120 KM that is enough for most daily commutes.

You can get home/fleet compressors. Slow ones with a similar philosophy to those “overnight chargers” can be cheaper.

Very cute video. Information is mostly correct. One glaring mistake is thinking that when the natural gas is mined out there will be no more. That is not true. Methane the main part of the natural gas can be created from water and CO2. That's what Elon Musk want to make on Mars to be able to create fuel for return trip. So natural gas or Methane (CNG or LNG) could really be the fuel of choice for the future. At least where batteries can't be used.
@Johnyquest16 жыл бұрын
Good point -- And it can be made from simple garbage composting, and lots of other ways too! The saddest part about it is how poor our storage & transport infra for NG is. While some countries and even places in countries w/ lots of NG are running out, as of just a few years back (and i wouldn't doubt it doesn't still happen) the producers were still burning it right from the wells because there's literally nowhere to put it [those pictures you see of oil fields where each has a big flame over them -- that's the natural gas and other gaseous 'byproducts' from the oil wells simply being burned off!] www.iraqtradelinknews.com/2016/06/10-m-wasted-daily-for-gas-burning-in.html www.pennenergy.com/articles/pennenergy/2015/02/unconventional-oil-and-gas-north-dakota-bill-cuts-time-for-wasting-natural-gas-from-oil-wells.html

Your fuel economy is suffering because stock automobile engines aren’t setup for efficiency on anything other than regular unleaded gas. Even E85 engines aren’t setup for max fuel economy. They’re tuned to be middle of the road. In order to wring out all you can from CNG, compression has to be increased to around 16:1. The optimal running termp isn’t same as a gasoline engine either.
@redram51504 жыл бұрын
Ellenor Bjornsdottir milling the head is what you do to bump compression in NA engines. Milling and forced induction is redundant and asking for issues. Not all engines are built to withstand the compression necessary for efficient CNG use. Unless you have a blueprint for your specific application with a shopping list stating cam A+turbo B+injection system C = efficient and functioning engine, you’ll want to take it one step at a time. There will be trouble shooting in any project. Throwing on everything at once will make life hell figuring out what needs to be corrected
@ellenorbjornsdottir11664 жыл бұрын
@@redram5150 The Miller (Atkinson) cycle has a lower compression ratio for the same expansion ratio when it's off boost. It will not be a problem.
@redram51504 жыл бұрын
Ellenor Bjornsdottir it’s still unnecessary as the method of forced induction is increasing compression. The less one needlessly modifies an already reliable engine, the less its chance of failing. Extra compression=more heat generated. Although a minuscule amount of metal, that metal is helping prevent head warping and more effectively dissipate heat
@ellenorbjornsdottir11664 жыл бұрын
@@redram5150 In any case I would start with doing the Atkinson cam and shaving the head designed so the net effect is that the compression ratio is 9 or 10 and the expansion is 14, which I acknowledge is not ideal for NG or E70 operation.

@saragamapada6 жыл бұрын
actually today's engines are not specifically made for running on a dry fuel ,running your car on CNG makes your engine noisy and you have to have more oil changes which take the cost of cng equal to petrol. Driving experience is not smooth at all HANG literally gives a bumpy drive. And if we talk performance wise I would say if you are using cng you would have to compromise on that a bit a car which went to 100mph in 20 seconds will take 50 to go on 80mph . the adaptation of CNG was very quick in our country due to low costs but now we have feul holidays to maintain enough feul in reserve we are literally running out of CNG.

Adam A. Instead of saying, “The Bible says...”, look it up and reference the book, chapter and verse. It’s funny how the people who attack the Bible point out slavery, but the people who most closely follow the Bible (namely, Christians & Jews) don’t have slaves and not condone it. Christians and Jews have been the people who fought for freedom; more than any other people groups. And the notion of “all men are created equal” is actually taken from the Bible. The Bible also points out that there is something worse than slavery and it affects everyone, including you, yet you fail to mention that. Since you are projecting to be so knowledgeable on the Bible, perhaps you can tell us that which is worse than slavery.
