For more information : Beit-Mery in brief! Beit-Mery is an exceptional city with a history that goes back centuries and milleniums. It sits 750 meters above sea level and about 17 km form the east of Beirut. Its unique position attracted many civilizations that ruled the Middle East going back to the Phenicians, the greeks, the Romans, the Crusaders and the Ottomans. Traces of these past and glorious eras remain and among them, the famous "Deir el-Kalaa" ruins (litteral translation ruins of the "monastery of the fortress"). The monastery, built over the ruins of an old Phoenician then Roman temple, is on a hill that offers the visitors an amazing and charming 360 degrees panoramic view. From that one position you can see the mountains of Kesrouan and Jbeil, to the North with a view of the Virgin of Harissa. As you turn towards the south you have a gracious view of the Lebanese seashore from Batroun, Byblos, Jounieh to encounter Beirut to the West then Neemhe and Damour. By night, you will be fascinated by the view of Beirut glowing with light in a mosaic of colors in a background to the "Port of Beirut" and a multitude of ships swaying on the beautiful Mediterranean sea. To the South of Beirut, the International airport appears to be flirting with planes from all over the world visiting or departing. The neighbouring hills to the southern side are home to the charming towns and cities of Choueifat, Aley, Bhamdoun, and Sawfar. Covered with snow in the winter the majestic and imposing Sannine mountain shrouded in white like a faithful guardian keeps guard. Sannine then descends to the forests leading to Beit-Merri with shady pine trees, sunny, fragrant and colorful forests leading all the way to the valley of Beirut. Visiting Beit-Merri you will feel at home with the hospitality and warmth of its citizens. The weather also contributes to the charm of the place with its mild winter and comfortable and pleasant summer. Clean and fresh air lures scores of people to move in permanently to enjoy the location, the climate, the people and the environment. After all it is not far from Beirut with several roads linking it to the capital city and making the commute time bearable. Roads to beirut go through Sin-el-Fil, passing by Ain-Saadeh, Mansourieh and Mkalès, or through Jdeideh passing by Fanar to, or to Nahr el-Mott passing through, or to Jal el-Dib trough Jouret el-Ballout. Other destinations in the beautiful mountainous areas are only a short drive away such as Broumana, Baabdat, Bikfaya, or Hammana, Ras el-Metn, Hammana, Sofar, Zahlé...The Municipality of Beit-Mery-Ain Saadeh spreads between the River of Beirut to the River of Nahr el-Mott cvering a large area with a surely promising development for the future. The businesses of the Municipality are managed by active commissions in co-operation and coordination with the Town council. The districts are: The Western Street, will el-Hara, Rouaiseh, Souq- the Eastern Street, Deir el-Kalaa, Nabeh el Saadeh, Kafra, Ain Saadeh (medium of the city) - el Raii el-Saleh, Ain Najem, Mountazah, Monte Verde, the Industrial Valley, and the Hills of Ain Saadeh. The first Town council in Beit-Méry was created in 1914 with in the chair Mr. Asaad Boutros Raad. Successively assumed the presidency Mrs. Antoine el-Khoury, Daoud Bechara, Qaysar Barakat, Tannous Freiha, Iskandar el-Naccache, Nasib Raad, Joseph Massoud Raad, George Eddé, Antoine Assaf, and current President Antoine Maroun. In 1928, Naëm Andrea was elected First Mayor of the Town of Beit-Mery. The Mayor Boulos Akl was also elected in 1933, and his mandate lasted until its death in 1997. The Mayor Bechara el-Samarani was elected for the Town of Ain Saadeh and lasted a long time. It was succeeded by Bechara Semaan, then George Bou Aoun who recently passed away during the elections. Two positions were nominated for the Town hall of Beit-Mery. The first mandates were assumed respectively by Mayors Elias Sheba and Joseph Bechara Raad. The second current mandate is assumed by the re-elected Mayor Elias Sheba and the Mayor Bechara Bou Dames. The name of Beit-Mery (or old Beirut) goes up with the Sémitique language and means “Beit Morio” or “House of the Lords”. This name is probably allotted to the temple of the Phoenician Lord “Peret” the traces of which remain until today in Deir el-Kalaa, where several historical temples from the succeeding civilisations Phoenician, Assyrian, Chaldean, Roman, and Byzantine. The temples of Ashtarout and Juno continue to attract the visitors to Deir el-Kalaa. It is remarkable that the area of the ruins of Deir el-Kalaa became today the Convent for the Antonines Brothers who, thanks to their collaboration with the Municipality and the Ministry for Education, transformed this building into an exceptional place of interest which attracts the tourists of the whole world. In the nearest future, the international festivals of Deir el-Kalaa will be reanimated after a forced suspension caused by the events in Lebanon. It is to be announced that Maronite Patriarch of Beirut chose his summer residence in Ain Saadeh since 1852 during the mandate of the Patriarch Toubia Aoun. This site remains until our days the Patriarchal summer residence and currently with the Patriarch Boulos Matar. Like many Lebanese areas, Beit-Mery and Ain-Saadeh organize annually a number of festivities and traditional festivals. Among these festivities oe of theknown and popular: Saint Sassine (on September 15), Saint-Elie (on July 19), and the Virgin Mary (on August 15), as well as the annual dinner of Saint-George (in April). To those other festivals organized by clubs and the civil organizations are added. But reading about Beit-Mery is not enough and a visit remains a must to discover this beautiful jewel of the Lebanese mountain. In 2010 due to the new municipalities elections. Ain saadee got an independant municipality.

@@fadyaraj990 indeed the ruins shown are much older than the era during which the Romans invaded our country ... it is very important to know that the Romans didn't invade Lebanon with an army of architects our late Lebanese historian May Murr Said , they only started to build majestuous temples when they were introduced to the Phoenician architects , the thing which explains why their temples has the same Phoenician architecture . As invadors , it was commonly known at that time , the the invadors impose their identity on the occupied countries , and they chose these countries majestice temples to call them strictly Roman.. the Ottomans used the same concept but they went further , they used to destroy a part of each majestic building which represent a specific description of the people of these countries, as a sign of defeat and humiliation for its owners and people who weren't allowed to reconstruct the tiny destroyed part of it ... calling Baalbeck who is recognised as the oldest even main maid monument by Roman is a great and inacceptable lie . because Roman only knew about the presence of our land in 62 BC

I adore this town, that I call my hometown even though I was not born there.. We lived in this gorgeous town during the war in late 80’s, early 90’s, studied at the (École des Freres), had so many great memories that are still embedded in me until this day …., my dream is to go back one day and have a little place to call home in my beautiful Beit Mery
