Jirekianu I was watching a video by one of the "harassers" and apparently the reason why they were at their panel is because they wanted to have a conversation with all the feminists and pretty much listen to what they have to say whether they agree or disagree. They weren't at just Anita's panel but a majority of panels that had people like her. For the most part, they did have civil conversations with these people but in Anita's case, she just shuts them down assuming they're out there to harm because they are "garbage human beings". If you affiliate with just one party entirely you are blinding yourself with their ideologies, and to me, that is the most foolish thing a person can do. Be open-minded, I'd advise against taking big media companies articles or news word for word if anything avoid them or at least take it with a grain of salt. Maybe a slightly narrow minded point: Why does Vidcon have to have so many panels on controversial and provoking topics? Why can it not be a more light hearted event, one where fans can meet creators and creators can partake in fun and entertaining activities. It sounds to me like they played the situation in a very slimy political way, choosing not to do much of anything and instead make ambiguous statements, so that they wouldn't get the ire of any one particular group turned on them. The way Sarkeesian handles stuff is that everyone that is a critic of hers is guilty of harassment. People pointing out she lied in a video? Harassment. People pointing out her argument is baseless? Harassment. People pointing out that criticism isn't harassment? Harassment. Some of what she gets is real, but most of it isn't. It's so bad she's had to go as far as to fake death threats and the like because nobody was actually doing these things to her and she needed to fuel her victim complex. Sargon and the entire crew have gone on record time and time and time again asking people, not just to not harass her, but to leave her alone because she's such a sensitive person and her fans will go after you IRL. Full disclosure: I like Sargon of Akkad and his content and I'm not a big fan of Anita. As far as Anita's response to Sargon, I can understand where it came from, however when mommy and daddy fight you don't do it in front of the kids. Her response was unprofessional at the least and harassment at its worst. I understand that Sargon's fan base can be confrontational, harassing, etc. but two wrongs STILL don't make a right. However, Anita's treatment of Boogie makes my blood boil! Boogie, a long time KZbinr, all around stand up human being, and someone who has spoken out against harassment and bullying on this platform for years. He gave Anita the respect she thought she deserved as a person yet she refused to give that respect in return. When the panel was over and everyone was leaving the stage Anita, who's job is to be professionally offended, confronted Boogie in a hyper aggressive manner because of his closing statements. The core to any logical discussion and philosophical debate is in finding conflicting ideas and understanding them, not in removing everyone who disagrees. From everything I've seen, and the footage shown, Sargon nor anyone near him were directly involved in any attempt to provoke her. Many people were equally recording the panel, and they all were in their right to do so. It's a public panel, and there were no bans on recording. Ya' can't just say "no, you specifically can't record because I don't like you" now. At any rate as far as the footage shows, Anita struck at him, without any direct provocation on his part. Beyond any of that, as a debater, you really don't have the right to choose who hears your statements when you're given a platform to speak. If people who disagree with you arrive, it's your job to convince them of the merits to your argument. If you can't do that, I'd argue the problem isn't your audience, but your argument. Which, being entirely fair, after this long from her and the consistent way she treats people who are critical to her, I'd further argue the problem isn't the argument or the audience, but the person themselves. To put it bluntly, when everyone around her seems to act like they're walking on eggshells to avoid setting her off, I tend to think that there is some merit to the argument that she's aiming to stir controversy, not to have an actual discussion in good faith. Y'know, ironically the very thing she's accusing everyone who showed up but didn't agree with her of doing.

I have my degree in broadcast journalism. I was a freelance reporter during the protests in 2014 after the shooting of Mike Brown. After that, I could not do news anymore after what I saw from big news sites. The CNN video leak just confirms it all. When he said it's all, "cutest little ethics" talk in Journalism, I could see that was just what I learned in college and was not prominent in the actual work field. I even saw my local news faking stuff. I prefer independent reporters, but there are still good ones out there too. Just remember though, there's always a motive to sell. You think it's ridiculous to defend Anita, but she has received actual threats from Sargon. Imagine you were a public speaker at an event and you saw someone who has threatened you multiple times sitting in the front rows filming you. Not only would my nerves be through the roof, with all the negativity and scary things in the world lately, I might be a little frightened. A KZbinr was literally shot and killed at a meet-and-greet not too long ago....you never know what could happen these days. I don't blame VidCon for apologizing to her although I don't think calling him a "shithead" did anything good either.

First of all at that point in said person's career she was a musician playing in a not very secured venue. Sadly it could have been prevented if there had been better security. Her situation is nothing like this one. Second I must address the fact that he was not the only person in the audience that opposed her. He has told his audience in a feeble attempt not to attack her but as reverse psychology goes they went ahead and did it anyway. If she agreed to be in a panel where conversation was encouraged then she should have braced for both sides of the topic that would inevitably have been brought up.

Just a quick comment about the internship in Czech power plant. In fact, the beauty competition was first, as is being held on all colleges around the world. And the organizers contacted CEZ (company owning power plants) as a sponsor. And they sponsored by giving them money and also offered an short internship for a winner (as a prize). So the internship was a goal, it was just a prize in a competition organized by non-affiliated people.

Jane W I disagree with your assessment. 1. Sargon clearly has an agenda, hence the recording of the panel and also taking up 3 rows with his entourage. 2. You're ignoring his history of attacking Anita 3. You're also missing the point of a conversation which allows people to listen and respond while being polite. 4. I don't think you actually know what Anita advocates 5. Her panel should have had more security, hence the apology she received

The biggest thing about people like Anita is, as was touched upon by Boogie, that when they are around you have to do everything in your power not to offend them. They are so big and so powerful and so sensitive that whenever they are around there cannot be an open discussion.

Personally I constantly worry about whether or not the news I receive is biased. Regardless of whether or not a news organization IS appealing to ratings, the POSSIBILITY that they might be heavily diminishes their credibility on any topic. A modernized version of the Fairness Doctrine, if executed independently of any administration, would certainly increase my faith in the news I find.

Hey Phil! I've been viewing for about a year and wanted to say thanks so much for the reporting. Even when you talk about your opinion, I feel that you do a good job of representing the other side and it makes me feel like the reporting is really balanced. So thanks for that! That being said, I do feel that I have a different opinion from a lot of people on here on the Anita situation. Before I go any further into my thoughts, I do want to say that I don't agree with everything Anita has to say especially when it comes to video games (as that is how I'm most familiar with her). However, I will say that as a woman in the games industry gamergate really effected me. The gaming community suddenly didn't feel as supportive as it once did and still to this day in my everyday life I'm a little frightened to go around wearing dev team shirts from work or post my job on my LinkedIn while I'm working there. (In all likelihood, nothing would happen but it is scary and it is kind of bummer to feel like I can't talk to people about the awesome things I've worked on.) This is also just my opinion without even having experienced the threats personally, so I can only imagine what it would be like in Anita's situation where she actually received threats. When I put things in that context, along with the fact that this guy has seemingly encouraged (intentionally or unintentionally) threats against her before (if I misinterpreted that part please let me know), was sitting in the front with a camera, and filled the front few rows with his friends, I could see that action feeling threatening. I don't by any means agree with or think that it is ok that Anita called this guy a "garbage person", but I guess that when I think about everything in this context I can understand why it happened and I personally feel that this context does matter to an extent? Not that it excuses it, but I feel that it's important to understanding it. That's just my thoughts though. :)

The Vidcon response is garbage. Panelist signed up to talk in public and really should have no say in who attends their panel. They proved that there is bias towards Sarkeesian. I'm really tired of people protecting some ideas and not others. I've watched Femfeq videos and they offend me for blanketly calling all men toxic. Yet she gets a free pass at every turn? No that isn't right. You signed up to speak in public so be professional and deal with who shows up. Vidcon showed who's side their on.

If not, Anita just got away with public embarrassment and harassment. The VidCon runners let this go with the ever-so-often-used "He deserved it" clause. As others have stated, if this was reversed Sargon would've been removed, banned, and his channel flagged or removed. She's disgusting.
