SkyRunner is a dune buggy and a power parachute in one. After almost three years in development, it is on track to hit the market later this year.

I'm assuming to get a vehicle light enough to get it off the ground he made it out of expensive materials. try buying some titanium or other hybrid metals that are as strong as steel but far lighter. the cost is far higher. but I'm sure if he could fly a tank under a powered parachute the cost would be a lot less.

Were you really expecting a flying dune buggy to cost 30k? Come on dude.

***** I was expecting a buggy for 20k an extra Propeller for 5k and a parachute for 5k... :D which would be the normal prices for those but somehow these guys think they could have 89k extra :D

Realy, I mean Realy dude ??? have you ever flown a Paratrike ?? this is all this is but with 4 wheels and maybe just maybe it will be legal to ride on streets, i like to see what they will do to be aproved to do so, that open prop in the back will not work for street use. But even then you are talking about running from cops ??? How are you planning to do so ?? get a 15 minute head start and then stop, get the wing out of the bag, extend it, untangle it, hook it up and then take off !!!! Hahahaha WTF ????? 😕😕😕😕😕😕😕😕😕😕😕😕😕😕😕😕

the reason it cost so much is because of low production numbers if it was to be 10,000 units built and sold each year, cost would be much cheaper say 30% and 100,000 units even cheaper say 50%,just price small production cars or better yet look at the cost of small new plane,just basic plane cost well over 100,00 us

+doug bishop The thing looks like it has a lot of carbon fiber to make it lighter weight, but its very expensive.
@dannypstl4238 жыл бұрын
I think you over simplified this explanation. unless you are part of the design team I think it would be impossible to know how many of the components are off the shelf how many are proprietary and have a research costs associated with them. I don't disagree with what you're saying about production but the reality is there are so many variables they go into bringing a product to Market that influence price it would be impossible to know specifics without being part of the company making that product

It's really no different than an ultralight as far as the flight aspect goes. Not to mention that you can pick up a new paramotor for under $3K. I'm not sure how (even at expensive prices) a $20,000 buggy + a $10,000 paramotor kit of some sort = $119,000

Anything that flies costs a lot. Just look up used Cessna 150s. They don't have much in them, and one that I flew didn't even have a transponder. You'd expect them to be cheap considering the technology of the aircraft as compared to a car, and yet, the plane will cost something around $90,000 just because it's a plane.

SuperFrodo95 And yet, the powered paragliders for under $10,000, as Nick Lukefahr pointed out.

What if you could have a parachute that could eject itself and go up while moving, or what if you could have a sport like speed riding but instead of skiing it is in a car?
@mausolfb10 жыл бұрын
This is pretty much a powered parachute that's been modified to have a transfer box that can drive the rear wheels when on land and switch over to powering the fan when the user wants to go flying.
@adriankoch964 Жыл бұрын
What makse it comparatively less safe is the assumption that someone takes it for jumps in rough terrain and unknowingly breaks stuff before deciding to fly in it. Also powered parachutes don't have the weight of a buggy and it's wheels to lug around, so when your motor fails you'll have a hell of a lot less time and options than the existing gliders, not to mention wonky aerodynamics.
