I have been a long time supporter of the Carter Center and I met and spoke with Jason, as well as other staff, earlier this year. My sincere condolences to the Carter family and to everyone at the Carter Center. While he received some criticism of his time in office (most of it undeserved), there has never been another ex-president that has done as much for society as President Carter. For example, one of the goals of the Carter Center was to eradicate the guinea worm. In the 1980s, when they started their efforts, there were 3.5 million cases of this terrible disease. Now, thanks to their efforts, there are only a couple dozen cases yearly. President Carter's goal was to have it eradicated in his lifetime, but the fight continues. He truly deserved his Nobel Prize!

Didn't drink or smoke and was religious which means less stressing over things that do not matter and comfort in the hard times. I saw a movie once where some explorers got into a bad place and the two members that were religious were calm whereas the non believer was freaking out. The Muslim and Christian told him sometimes you have to just let go and leave things in bigger hands than your own. Carter did that.

His faith, connections to family and community, and sense of purpose through humanitarian work definitely helped him live to 100 however he wasn’t as healthy in his elderly age due to a family history with cancer.
