When Powell was educated in the public's schools, they were actually good. My parents graduated in the 1950s, too, and bemoaned what had happened to our schools in recent years. Powell was what the American immigrant dream is all about. He came from nothing and ended up 4th in line to the presidency. Not too shabby for the son of non-white immigrants...you know...the ones that certain people don't want to let into our country. If it wasn't for the whole "weapons of mass destruction" thing, it would have been the perfect story. I still think he was a scapegoat on that one, considering the rest of his career.

Nowadays I do not watch CNN as I regard them as a very biased form of news, never being content to report on events but insisting on providing a twist that fits their established narrative. But I have a high regard for General Powell who would have been a far better choice for first black President than was the choice of the flamboyant but divisive and ineffective Obama. As I recall it Powell declined to run as his wife was very concerned about the possibility of assassination. A great pity, but the damage is now done and the US is picking up the pieces. General Powell is very clear about who hi is against ( Trump) but less then enthusiastic about who or what he is for. Biden gets a bit of lip service but only a vague hint of support and, in short, Powell cannot offer any solutions in the form of suitable persona. And he thus encapsulates the dilemma of most good American people : they are decent , intelligent people who, because they just cannot understand how America got into its present mess, can offer no solutions. So they are not willing to bite the bullet and propose solutions for disappearing factories (capitalist greed), dreadful education ( liberal teaching and faculties) , a corrupt capital city ( the Deep State), crime-wracked inner cities (a black underclass protesting against their ‘food stamp’ liberal masters), vast and increasing income inequality ( the new Elite flaunting their Wall Streep wealth). Trump is certainly not the ideal choice of President to tackle this horrendous list but, give the devil his due, he is trying against incredible odds. Even his own spineless party, used to the troughs and fleshpots of power, have abandoned the poor guy who fights on alone. If Powell was running , with good policies, he would have my support.
