Sima Yi lived so long he outlived 3 Caos' rule. And here I though during Three Kingdom era people tend to die around age 50s.
@sweepingtime11 ай бұрын
70s was old for the time, but these days it would be considered slightly young to die at.
@Aspiringamoeba199711 ай бұрын
Not all of them. Usually the ones that stayed out of the way tended to live longer. Sima Yi grabbing the spotlight late in his life was the exception.

Xu Chu was another favorite of mine, The Tiger Fool. You knew Cao Cao had to trust him deeply, sometimes a simple person is the best person to keep around you, love to serve and intense loyality makes a dangerous combo.

I know there are exception but child ruler usually is the slow death of a empire.

The coup was absolutely my favorite moment in the entirety of the second season of the Sima Yi th show, and I’m glad Sirius trivia is using that as the KZbin cover.
@nobblkpraetorian562311 ай бұрын
This coup has made Sima Yi infamous for being a usurper, but he only held absolute power for 2 years. Its not fair that his reputation is defined by the last years of his long life.
@SeriousTrivia11 ай бұрын
Cao Cao never usurped the Han but he is remembered as a usurping prime minister. Sima Yi pulled the trigger or knocked down the first domino in a series of event that would led to the usurpation so he is accredited for the setup
@nobblkpraetorian562311 ай бұрын
@@SeriousTrivia to be fair, Cao Cao held absolute power over the imperial court for 20 years, while Sima Yi only did so for 2 years.

@@nobblkpraetorian5623 I think Sima Yi is remembered much more negatively because he was a subordinate of Cao Cao, a personal friend of Cao Pi and an uncle to Cao Rui. He had a very intimate connection to the two Wei emperors. His coup directly caused a domino effect of his clan usurping the clan of his friend and nephew-like figure. Then the fact he broke his promises, to Cao Shuang then a Wei loyalist (Wang Ling is a bit iffy since his plot was to usurp Cao Fang for Cao Biao), doesn't help. Also the Jin dynasty that his family founded was exactly the best period for China lol

Another great episode! Sima Yi's coup alongside the fate of a certain upcoming Wei emperor is one of the saddest moments of Chinese history for me

I love 3 kingdoms and I love learning about the things that I never knew when I was a kid. This is so interesting 😀
@quicochines749211 ай бұрын
It is always difficult to separate what really happened in that period of time, since most of the information that reach us surely have some degree of Jin's propaganda (like: Cao Shuang was destroying Wei! So the coup was justified since Sima Yi was saving the dynasty and the young emperor from a corrupt regent). I am quite curious to see how you will show us this time period (since you have done others so brilliant). Is it true that at a certain point during his "peak of power", Cao Shuang considered deposing the emperor and taking the throne himself? (Or this could be one of the Jin's propaganda I was talking about.) Thank you for coming back with the series. (Waiting to see Fei Yi shine)
@historian25211 ай бұрын
Quite interesting to know that Jin dynasty was formed exactly 16 years and 3 days after Sima Yi's coup. Either that was intentional or quite a massive coincidence.
@SeriousTrivia11 ай бұрын
I think Sima Yan wanted to do it during the first month (lunar calendar) of the new year to represent a new start so it’s just a coincidence and not meant to match the date of the coup (date of Cao Rui’s burial)

Was Cao Shuang even physically qualified to be the General of the Martial Guards? Feels like he had big shoes to fill for the Tiger Fool. A big part of the balancing act is that both co-regents should have equal or similar contributions and achievements. With Sima Yi so well-decorated, Cao Shuang would have been pressured to be aggressive to the start.
@SeriousTrivia11 ай бұрын
Given how peaceful it was by this period for the emperor compared to Cao Cao’s time, the only requirement for that job is that the emperor has to trust that you would never plot against him.

Very nice thumbnail had a feeling you were going to use that iconic moment of the Coup in the advisors alliance. Hey Serious Trivia, 1. In Total war Three Kingdoms game I notice in Cao Shuang standard Champion Portrait CA give him the title (THEFT) And did he ever historically stole anything? In advisors alliance he stole a Red Coral Tree (Corallium rubrum) and a Peacock Dress. 2. Has Xu Chu ever remove parts of his armor and leaving only his chest plate and leaving his arms expose just like his character Portrait. 3. Will He Yan appear in the Lore series and he was a very interesting Villain in the advisors alliance?
@SeriousTrivia11 ай бұрын
1. He stole Cao Rui's concubines lol 2. In Romance of the Three Kingdoms novel, he took off his armor and fought Ma Chao bare chested 3. He Yan is coming soon!

I see and Ah Yes and one of those Concubines would be his wife and a minor Villain in the advisors alliance Lol.

Hey ST, do you think that Sima Yi would have lose the Gaopingling incident if Cao Shuang has been more willful and not surrender?
@SeriousTrivia11 ай бұрын
Yes! Cao Shuang chickened out. If he ran with the Emperor and demanded with the Emperor that Sima Yi had rebelled then he could have pulled from other regional forces and won in the end. However he would put his family at risk and basically he thought he would just return to a cushy life and chose not to gamble
@Killerbee471211 ай бұрын
Is this series going to cover all the way up until Sima Yan's usurption, or just until Sima Yi's death?
@SeriousTrivia11 ай бұрын
Just Sima Yi’s death. It’s more or less a deep dive into the politics surrounding the coup. Then we will have separate series on Sima Shi and Sima Zhao before going into the founding of Jin by Sima Yan and the unification of the Three Kingdoms

Advisor Alliance! Three Kingdoms from Sima Yi’s perspective! Great show, one of my favorite tv drama on the three kingdoms period. Have two seasons (first one covers Cao Cao’s period and second season is the rest of Sima Yi’s life) not completely accurate but much better than 2010 three kingdoms series!
