The cornerstone of CFI’s educational initiatives, the Peak Steward program, was launched in 2000. The program was developed to provide Fourteener hikers with an opportunity to give back to the peaks they love through service and education. This video will help volunteers learn how to educate fellow hikers about Fourteener specific Leave No Trace practices and hiker contact strategies.
Tired mountain climbers focused on reaching the summit may not notice the diversity of life in the alpine, but the ecologically-rare tundra community exemplifies how plants and animals adapt their life cycles to thrive in a harsh environment. Learn more about alpine ecology from Loretta McEllhiney, the Fourteeners Program Manager from the U.S. Forest Service and CFI’s trail designer.
