Colorado State University Biology Professor Greg Florant, PhD, details the fascinating biological attributes of marmots that might help solve many human health problems. For example, marmots gorge on food during the snow-free summer months and develop tremendous fat stores, but never become diabetic. Then they stop eating entirely and live off of this accumulated fat store for seven months until they start the process over again. Marmots are also able to hibernate motionless for weeks at a time without losing bone density, something that humans are unable to do. Learn more about how humans might benefit from better understanding marmot physiology in this video.
