Technically if the female mosquitoes go to the trap, it means they are looking for a blood meal. If they are gravid or full of blood, they are not looking for prey so they don't end up into this kind of trap (but there are other traps for gravid mosquitos).

The trap is connected to a CO2 cylinder that brings it into the trap where it is mixed with the smell of an artificial human scent. The female mosquitoes are attracted by the CO2 and the smell since they think there is a human to bite there. When getting too close to the trap, they are sucked in and they cannot leave the trap and get dehydrated.

Will this work on the Aedes albopictus?

Yes, it was initially developed specifically against Aedes mosquitoes. Aedes are daytime flyers, so the light traps do not work for them as the competition with the sun is too strong. So smell, co2 and contrast in color are the best way to catch Aedes. Still, it also catches all kinds of other mosquitoes, in this particular case here, +99% of the mosquitoes in the bag here are Culex cinquefasciatus.

Where are you located? There is the version without CO2 that is catching a little bit, but CO2 version is way better. You need to get a CO2 kit including a connector, a pipe, and a nozzle.
