Thanks James. I feel like this is exactly what I’m doing wrong. I feel like if I get it airborne I’ve got it, but really what I’ll get is just vertical and stall. That forward drive is so important.

It is everything! Without speed it is very hard to get on foil

It's gonna help me to improve. I think I start to pump the foil to aggressively to quickly. On flat water I still can't get up on the ART 1099 with my 6'4 20 board. When I start to pump I'm slowing down, my board nose dive a bit in the water.

One way to avoid the trap of missing the "middle bit" (where you start to do mini pumps) is to move your front foot forward a fraction from the flat "start bit". This allows you to put your weight forward and negate the body weight beginning to tilt backwards as you increase the pump angles (as we see in the video here).

Yes but then you need to shift your weight back to get the foil up off the water… it’s complex and constant speed and smooth feet transitions are key

If I can ever get my SOLOSHOT to work I’ll have to try this. Do you help with prone too?

Yeah I do a lot of prone surf coaching as well. Solo shot no necessary, go pro or iPhone footage can work great too
