Leahy revealed later that his health was fine and that the real reason he left ND was because he was no longer wanted. Essentially, Fr. Hesburgh made it known that, "This town ain't big enough for the both of us." ND had become a football factory and Hesburgh was determined to put a end to it.

Does anyone know of any clips of Leahy that have him speaking? I'm a lifelong Notre Dame fan, but all I've ever heard are players quoting or impersonating him. There is video with sound of Rockne, so you would thing there has to be footage with audio of Leahy.

When you have a good coach who teaches football correctly and is also a model and you have the Catholic Faith at that institution where everybody's pretty much on the same page with the feeder system from the Catholic high schools that they used to have with kids that had their heads squarely on their shoulders and knew what they were about, then you could produce championship teams year after year. Now Kelly has to deal with kids, even the good ones, that sometimes have shit between their ears and he has to clear that out and start over. Then he has to deal with a "Catholicism" that is modernist and relative and liberal with the acceptance of abortion "rights" and "gay rights", etc. No wonder they are struggling. Let's pray ND becomes truly Catholic again.

Leahy was only 45 when he left Notre Dame, only 64 when he passed away in 1973.
