These actors are so much better than the SNL cast. They remember their lines and don't blatantly read off the cards. Mad TV was consistent comedy. And Coach Hines rules.....

Eh, Mad TV had some brilliant moments (like this one) but overall a lot of it was pretty forgettable. I think it's easy to look at the best moments now and remember the entire product being a lot better than it actually was.
@jeromyperez55327 жыл бұрын
I'd be tempted to agree with you James. But, it depends on who was writing the sketch. I think that much of the Coach Hines bits were written by Key and Peale, but a lot of the other talented writers would include Will Sasso, who had just great sketches about out of shape celebrities, or middle American men playing it straight. Ares Speares had great bits using violence as a punchline. Stephanie Weir who relied on understatement and physical comedy. Mo Collins who was over the top rambunctious- Nicole Sullivan who played on the slimiest parts of women and the customer service industry. Debra Wilson with her radical victim mentality black stereotypes of the 2000s. But what tied together Mad TV and their best skits was absurdism. SNL is more observational, whereas Mad TV occasionally featured observational sketches, but primarily relies on demons, heaven and hell, imagination realms, ghosts, Frankenstein, woodland monsters, Steven Segal, Drug addicts, out of work actresses, bad coaches, and busty doctors with great life advice- SNL is all Feminist issues, politicians, social commentary and liberal propaganda. (Not that propaganda has to be good or bad but it is what it is) So, considering that half the population (especially during times of war) isn't interested in being preached to or condemned for wrong think, it's no wonder that Mad TV had a better flavor (until the original cast was replaced and many of the assistant writers were replaced with pretty unfunny progressives aping SNL skits) for most audiences.

Last time I checked mad TV never had John Bellushi, John Candy, Bob Odenkirk, Chris Farley, Tim Meadows, Dan Aykroyd, Mike Myers, David Spade, Adam Sandler, Norm Mcdonald, Chris Rock, Phik hartman or Eddie Murphy....js I love mad TV but SNL showcased and produced icons. 90 and 80s SNL was untouchable. Still no one can be a bellushi candy or farley.

EhT German its called acting
@TransmutedCuppyCake9 жыл бұрын
EhT German A good bit of it is actually improvised. Things like that huge blurb about the 'strategy' were probably different for each take. I did a performance once where I was supposed to "inappropriately scream like an animal, with movements to match" So in front of everyone I just shrieked like a condor/eagle/thing complete with derpy flapping until it was someone's turn to tackle me offset. In other words if it's long as hell and sounds like babbling or conversational with no pauses for dialogue, it's probably improvised.
