Should he have a taken a different approach, yes. However, he’s not a bad coach. He’s just not the people person the public wanted him to be. Long seasons with coaches, and players go through heavy ruff patches. What people don’t understand, not unless you played football on those top tier levels. ‘’I been there’’. Those next levels require a different mindset not everyone can do this. That’s why only 1% makes it. It’s cut throat, nobody is going to hold your hand, as a player you are renting the jersey and as a coach you are renting the whistle. All he asks is for players to study the playbook, come in watch film, ask questions if you have them. Assignment, alignment, technique. Execute what you supposed todo and take it serious. That’s all he wanted them to do in the show.

Shouldn’t be “taking shots” on anyone. When I played we hit but it was always with the intent of doing everything in a safe way proper form… the rule was stay off the ground and don’t be cheap and that limits injuries enough and everyone can still get good work in.

This was a rule when I played in high school. We were not allowed to hit the QB in practice, & we had a RB who went on to play in the league. We were not allowed to hit him either. Just trying to prevent injuries, in practice you have full control over that unlike the game. It’s really not that deep, I feel like the best players on any team get that treatment.

Lost a little respect for coach Jb saying that hit on Travis was “perfect”. I know from a player on the team that Blackburn had bragged to his teammates he was going to hurt Travis. That was a pre meditated late hit out of bounds after the whistle. In no world is that “a perfect hit” unless you condone dirty play. 😢

Ehhh it was late but at game speed I don’t think it was really dirty. When you’re playing safety and see them throw the ball this way he just triggered and went for the hit it happens all the time. Even if it’s not caught or sometimes not necessarily close to the WR it was still a bang bang play. With a helmet on he doesn’t have the same vision. I don’t mind the hit I see it everyday. Especially cuz Travis went for the ball. If he didn’t then I’d say yea it was dirty. Also the guy didn’t target Travis head or knees so it was right in the target zone

Prime was right to protect his quarterback, wide receivers, and Travis Hunter who plays both starting wide receiver and cornerback. Prime mentioned Travis in particular because he didn't want anyone on the offense putting serious blocks on Travis when he is on defense. You do not want your skill players getting injured in practice. If they get injured, let it be in a game. Prime's position makes sense. Even professional boxers take measures to protect themselves in sparring, so they don't get injured during training for a fight.

In college when we faced this situation, it gave many of us non super star players, although we were also starters, the feeling that we really weren't a team after all. Sometimes, then, we didn't make any on field special efforts for the super stars during the game. That's what gets created. Facts. If we're not a team in practice, we aren't a team in a game either. So what happens when I'm a starter but not a super star, and because I have to go full speed to keep my spot, I end up injured and lose my scholarship? Then what was in it for me? If I was a true leader and a true teammate, I would have stepped up and told coach I got to go full speed because these are my brothers.

@erickennedy8534 it doesn't work that way for 18-21 yr old kids. They will think just the opposite. Do you think Shaddeur got sacked that many times because of poor blocking skills only? Look at the film. There were plenty occasions where O line "dealt with it" by letting D line slide right in for a big shot on Shaddeur. But, the backup qb, who had to bust his butt with everyone else in practice, look at how the O line went to battle for him vs Utah. Why? Because they are true brothers in the game. The backup stood in the pocket 40 times to pass and was only sacked twice. He completed 70% of his passes. Brother will go to war with brother. But if you not my brother, you are on your own.

If they were purposely letting blockers in, that looks bad on that player and no coach is going to trust you. This not the movie, Any Given Sunday. Them kids are playing to keep their scholarship. They simply lost their confidence, so teams ran the NASCAR at them and they folded like a lawn chair. They were seeing ghost. @kevinchristie4972
@kevinchristie4972 2 ай бұрын
@burny890 1. Rick went on to win the Heisman. Nothing soft (on the field) about him. 2. Every team does this. Do you think they would have allowed you to hit Mike Vick, Reggie Bush, Matt Linhart, Vince Young...or any other star needlessly in practice?? These type players all have multi million dollar Llyods of London insurance policies for a reason. There is politics at play. When powerful boosters make it clear to the head coach that X player is to be protected at all cost.....that coach tends to listen. 3. UT has always been physical on defense. Unfortunately, physicality alone doesnt always equate to wins. I wont even start listening the defensive players who went to the league during his tenure. 4. Mack Brown won plenty. His problems started when Bob Stoops showed up. UT tends to be ready for big games. The issue is the games we expect to win. Everyone brings their A game against Texas. It's an emotional game and the predominantly emotional team is going to win out almost everytime. That coupled with an offensive genius like Art Briles @ Baylor spells trouble . Then you have an extremely emotional , disciplined and physical K State team that is ALWAYS hard to beat. Lastly, consider HS recruiting. Most "5" stars have maxed out their potential or are highly overated. That is why, OU, OSU, KState can take a 3 star and turn him onto a 1st round pick. The 3-4 stars usually havent even scratched the surface of how good they could be.

I occasionally get this channel in my feed and can’t believe this was a topic. Coach JB sounded like he about to have a stroke because another coach reduced the amount of early contact on a key player. In fact, Urban Meyer told Coach Prime that he didn’t have to practice him much last year. Because he did that for Percy Harvin. Wide receivers run, Db’s cover. Don’t need to clean clock or be dragging down and tweaking an ankle or twisting a knee. In the absence of a real topic, please stop parsing the web and giving low hanging fruit stories life. All that yelling and posturing for what? Explains why you’re no longer a coach, and stop with that Blackballed ish, you benefited from one year rentals who talent didn’t belong in JUCO. To be fair, he said “don’t touch the receivers” meaning lots of guys on that roster. I’m assuming he singled out Travis by name because he’s playing both ways, so someone might try to tee off on him when he’s lined up at corner. It seems like offseason contact has been severely limited in the nfl, but not sure how college camps and practices have scaled down contact. I think dudes need to be practicing tackling so they don’t suck at it come week 1.

What this tells me, is that after a whole year of recruiting portal players and former nfl players as coaches, going into this season you still see at this point that your success is dependent upon two players. Clearly this is a sign of running scared, because now you are right back in the same situation you were last year. The pressure to succeed is mounting even before the first kickoff. As a competitor, I would go after their two stars hard, because we know the belief of the whole team, including coaches, it propped up on only two players. This would excite me as a competitor!

I must say...Coach right about the Travis Hunter ordeal. Where I'm lost at is...Will he hit someone at practice because last I checked he play defense too. So, does he hit ppl or just 2 hand touch them?? Or does get blocked?? I'm mean I need some understanding here.

I know we say that this new generation of player is soft as Charmin Ultra ALL THE TIME!.....The reason everyone says that shit is because it's true and it's because we make them that way as coaches, parents, and society. Before the social media generation, kids who were soft didn't play football. If you were raised soft, your parents put your soft ass in another sport (like soccer)...... Momma's wouldn't let you play football cause they knew some kids from the gutter would eat their kid alive...... Now, we don't raise tough kids....BTW, I couldn't tell you the last time I heard a mom in the community say little Timmy isn't signed up for youth tackle football cause they dont want him to get hurt or injured. Growing up in the 70s, 80s, and even 90s you heard that as a reason several kids in your school weren't allowed to play. Instead, we now change the rules and make football easy so that everyone can play..... Hell, these kids don't even have two-a-days anymore because it's too hot 🤦 WTF!?!?!

I honestly agree with both sides this is kind of like the load management thing in the nba players aren’t really conditioned for the grind anymore. At the same time u have to protect your assets as they are pretty much walking commodities I would emphasize more wrapping up while still practicing fundamentals full speed

I played in the 1980's and from High School and college we practiced every play like it was a real dam game. Coach JB is right on what he is saying. These kids are too soft and will get hurt in the games based on the way the are practicing. What a dam joke I see today at all levels in most football programs. I also see this in the military in the non-special operations groups to Law Enforcement as everyone needs to be kinder and gentler today. In certain situations that just doesn't work.

Practice like you play. This is why so many NFL teams look like shit for the first month. None of them practice full speed in pads anymore Also way more fuckin injuries now cuz of this. Practice is the most important part of sports. If u take practice serious then come game time it’s just reactionary

JB really showed how he’s a hater. He keyed in on Shadeur & Travis Prime mentioned the receivers also. In latter practices he also included all QB’s & WR’s. JB exuded to screaming, hollering & walking off the set which proves his envy, malice and hatred towards COACH PRIME & Colorado. Smitty just looked at him clueless & In disbelief as JB jumped out of his chair and went bolistic. That’s why JB is a felon washed up Coach that no one wants to have anything to do with him.😢 TRUE DISGUST & DISGRACE
