I completely agree. Umps are taught to think about their calls, especially major decisions. That's why a runner will be safe at home by 10 feet and the ump will still stand there and think about it for a few seconds before waving him safe. May look soft, but I actually support these ejections. There should be no tolerance in baseball to throw a fastball at a guys head intentionally, I don't care what they did to you previously. Only way to get it out of the sport is to eject people when it happens. Besides if the ump doesn't eject these guys the other team is just going to retaliate next inning and do the same thing to them and before you know it you got a brawl on your hands.
@Danjr704 Жыл бұрын
Then why not eject the guy who did the taunting and made the pitcher throw high to next batter. I had no issues with batter running how he did and celebrated with his teammates however, but there’s no need to chirp at the opposing bench, you got the HR, you won….

@samxyx Жыл бұрын
@@Danjr704 Yeah that's a decent point. The taunting is not cool either. My issue is that the retaliation of throwing the ball at the head is out of proportion. Theoretically if the MLB really wanted to take that stuff out of the sport they could eject or fine players for taunting, but then there's the risk of making the game void of emotion and stale. It becomes a question of where you draw the line. Baseball is a little unlucky in that regard cause their only options for in-game discipline are to eject a player or not. NFL and NBA for example can enforce penalties and fouls midgames for unsportsmanlike conduct which is more reasonable and thus they can save their ejections for only severe violations.

LU getting some much deserved publicity from espn. I'm surprised they'd do that considering how LIBERALLY mental espn has been the past decade and a half.

This was a solid call on the umpires. That pitch was 100% intentional, and the catcher already set up for it gave it away. \

These kind of retaliation pitches should be immediate ejections. Sont want then to celebrate a home run? Dont let them get one off of you. Dont try to concuss them afterwards.

I support the home plate umpire not making a rash decision and ejecting the pitcher without conferring; also it seems like the third base umpire, possibly the chief umpire, called for the umpire huddle. I also support ejections for anyone with knowledge that a pitch would be thrown at any batter for any reason, sure it was only 87 mph and he got out of the way but I have seen a friend on the opposing team take a pitch to the head in 6th grade baseball be evaluated and deemed safe to continue playing only to collapse halfway to first. In that case it was completely accidental, but this seemed initial and has no place in the game. If you want to send a message, like a fight in hockey, aim for the hip; it might hurt him but you aren't likely cause severe injury if they don't move. (Also my friend ended up being fine, just had a concussion and returned to playing a couple weeks later.)

Looking at it when the ball is halfway in flight the catcher was actually not ready for that pitch. Pitcher aimed right at the dude's head though, so he was in the wrong. Coach is probably pissed because he knows his catcher, an could clearly see how he had to react. Cause it looks like the ball could of gotten the ump too, but that may just be the angle. Ump needed a video review.

I would come up to the plate after a homerun and tell the catcher if I get hit im not going after the pitcher im going after him. Some umps would tell me to be quiet others would just remain silent. I never got pitched at.

When the pitcher is ejected for throwing at the batter intentionally, the acting head coach would also be ejected.

ok, i'm gonna disagree with most of you. nowadays, that home run "celebration" is rather mild for what is typically seen/allowed at d-I college games, especially for the home team. who knows? maybe that was that player's first home run or something. not saying i like/agree with it, but that's just how it is. as far as the "retaliation" pitch, it was high enough to be be considered throwing "at" the batter, but not to hit the batter. undoubtedly a message pitch, but not dangerous. a full, official, written-in-the-scorebook warning to both teams, and play ball. (although, it does seem like the ejected pitcher left in such a timely manner that he had a research paper due before they got back to his school...)

unless warnings had been issued beforehand, I don't think they should have thrown him out. After the 1st pitch I would have issued a warning and let the game continue.

I remember playing a game like this and after a bad pitch the umpire got all fired up even though nobody was hit and when the umpire ejected the pitcher and the the catcher we walked out of the game.. it’s part of the game but not all umpires are smart.
@gordonfurness6253Ай бұрын
If a pitcher intentionally throws at the batter, they should be charged with assault at the very minimum. I bet pitchers would stop acting like 3 year olds if there were more serious consequences than just an ejection.

Just allow pitches to be charged with attempted battery if they try to throw at a batter and it stops it below the MLB level.

Idk of you saw the 0.2 second glance he threw at the opposing teams dugout, but that. Literally could've been a mistake it was so quick. Didn't mean mug. Didn't stare. Glanced. Apparently that's enough to potentially concussions the next at bat. Baseball players gotta be the softest athletes.
