They said that Kise's Copying ability isn't exact (even though it is somehow still perfect) because he is compensating for what he lacks in order to achieve the same results as a Generation of Miracles Player. For example, Kise simply is not as tall as Murisakibara, his arms and legs are not as long as his, so if he tried copying his ability exactly Kise's shorter limbs would literally come up short at the edges of what that ability would normally be able to play at. And so Kise is doing something extra somehow to get that extra reach that Murisakibara has in order to more accurately copy that ability. And same for the other abilities as well, he can't copy them all exactly but is doing something extra in addition to each ability in order to achieve the same/similar results to the original abilities, which is of course why it is both more difficult and more tiring to copy the abilities of the Generation of Miracles Players.

That is a good explanation. "Kise only can copy which he is able to do". Normally when using his ability he just plays "regular" basketball while learning really fast. Copying them tho is a constant chore, he has to push and try to achieve the impossible. Kise has proven that he's just as much of a prodigy as any of them

sadly that's one of the points where this show starts falling apart. Kise isn't as fast as Aomine for example, but somehow PC makes him able to keep up that speed? Makes no sense if his muscles and physique is simply not capable of producing that speed. Same with Kagami's jumps and Murasakibara's height/reach. Kise should have just been "all 5 GoM in one person, but every aspect worse than the original". But a lot of stuff never made sense in the show, for example how Kagami can suddenly somehow keep up with Aomine by just going to america for summer vacation, and how he's somehow able to go toe to toe with Aomine when both are in the Zone. Not to mention that Aomine somehow played worse in their second game than he did in their first.

Interesting that you and chat thought Haikyuu names were easier to remember, when a lot of the main character names here are actually based on their hair color which should in theory make them easier to remember (although obviously this doesn't hit the same way for foreign audiences). (Aka)shi - red, (Ao)mine - blue, (Midori)ma - green, (Murasaki)bara - purple, (Ki)se - yellow. Interestingly, Kuroko doesn't exactly fit this as Kuro is black, probably related to his theme of being a shadow. I wonder if part of the difficulty in remembering their names comes from Kise and Satsuki's habits of referring to people in unique ways, where Kise appends -cchi (Kurokocchi, Kagamicchi) and Satsuki uses 'kun' (most notably when Murasakibara becomes Mu-kun)

I think it's because the names in haikyuu are more unique. specially at the start of their names. Daichi Asahi Nishinoya / noya Sugawara /suga Kageyama Hinata while in kuroko there is a bit more overlap, like midorima murasakibara (also this name is huge). both starting with the "m" sound, mi and mu are not too far apart either. Akashi Aomine. both starting with A kise kuroko. both starting with the "k" sound. not like it's a huge deal or anything, but unique names probably helps with nothing getting mixed.

11:42 I definitely cried at this part when I first watched it…. 9 years ago jfc 17:45 generally, the captain of each team here wears the number 4! Similar to how the captain in Haikyuu wears number 1 and the ace wears number 4. 21:19 it’s the same sound and kanji in Japanese too! Very sad I couldn’t make it to this reaction 😢 hopefully I’ll be able to make this month!

I don't really know the WHY part, but as a fan of anime, every single basketball anime i've seen the captain wears the n° 4 (kuroko, slam dunk, ahiru no sora) and as for volleyball i know 1 is for the captain. that being said this game is one of my favorites, but just bc im so much of a kise biased lol! hope you like it!

In Japan, 4 is the same as "shi" meaning death. The captain carries the most responsibility on their back. Also in FIBA the only jersey numbers allowed are 4-15 so 4 being the first and most important number usually goes to the captain.

The akashi vs aomine is a never ending thing. Akashi predicts perfectly the triple thread when he is in defense, but aomine being formless/streetball doesn't go through it for many shots, he may grab it one hand and throw it in. Saying who is better is just arbitrarely saying akashi can predict or not theose movements as they don't play each other in the series. Only place you can probably argue is that due to size diference(192cm vs 173cm, just checked the wiki) akashi can't do anythig in the inside if aomine just forces his position. Also the captain argument means little in my opinion, aomine isn't the captain of his current team yet he is the best by far as long as he get's a long leash he has no problem and akashi gave it to him.

@@TheUltimatum10 Because for plot convinience and enterteinment midorima decided to shot a flying 3 rather than do a post up or using takao as a good screen. As simple as that. SPOILER: same reason why kagami the PF that can't shoot from 3 sudenly plays above the 3 point line. The best strategy is boring,so they don't do it. Also, it would be against the mesage of effort and collaboration rewards if a prodigy was targeted due to not having a grow spurt

So as I understand it in Japan all sports captains wear the number 4 for cultural reasons. Similar to the popularity of kitkats this is a trick of linguistics. The Japanese word for “four” and “death” are both shi (technically there are two words for the number four but that’s beyond this post). So culturally the number four is unlucky because it’s sometimes pronounced like death. So the captain of the team takes the responsibility of wearing “the death number”. Similarly to how here in the states a lot of places won’t have a 13th floor hotels and hospitals might not have a 4th floor but go straight from 3rd to 5th.
