3:12 "...and then he will be offside" Offside dude: "Woohoohoo"

Thanks for the video, Coach John! You mentioned your best aerial defender plays that middle zone on the 6. Are there other positions that you like based on certain attributes, or do you simply define by position (left midfielder takes front 6, etc)?

Make your zone defence with max 7 players in the box + goal keeper. 1 player lurk outside, 2 players stay forward. These 3 players can easily score in the counter attack.

Hate defending in zones. Allows attackers space to run into and risk of colliding btwn defenders. Man to man is much better in my opinion.

regardless, defense in soccer is primarily zones man - look at the cb and fb heat maps next time you watch EPL...they play zones not man

@@utprez not at set pieces they aren't. Manchester United play zonal marking system in defending corners and deep free kicks this season, and this is the reason we have conceded the most goals from them in the entire league. It allows a player attacking the ball crossed in and get the leap on the defender who is static or moving slower, meaning they cant jump as high. Prime example is Virgil Van Dijk scoring a corner against United because Harry Maguire had a standing start and VVD had a free run

@@haydndowling7235 Know this is old, but I feel as though zonal only gets attention when it goes wrong, there can't be so many top tier coaches using it without good reason. When it's not effective it looks a very obvious mess, but when it works it never seems to get any attention.

Not sure I like the defending on the short corner, the man defending short was late stepping, just takes a clever attacker to notice the step and delay his run. The lad who comes behind the guy who finishes was actually onside.
@ianlattimer20916 жыл бұрын
Not realistic. You would have attacking players closer to the goal. Not just running in from the edge of the box

The problem with pushing everyone out for an offsides trap, is that what if they don't play it back and instead the guy who received the short ball, dribbles along the end line and plays it across the box to the incoming attackers?

Never zone on corners. Always man mark. Zone someone will be open.
@23DustinM4 ай бұрын
Disagree. When you are defending a corner, you are literally playing center field and what I mean is you are going to the ball to get it out not necessarily preventing the player from scoring. A corner is a 50/50 ball. You are not necessarily fronting a player on a 50/50 ball. You control your area and when the ball comes into your area, you get it out. Corners most commonly are going to the same area. So why man mark? All that does is open the possibilities of screens or someone tripping and getting out of position.

Zone Marking Is a poor choice, Id advise against that all day long. Mark your man and track him try to also keep your eye on the ball. With this you will match him in all area's whether you beat him is down to the individual level.
@23DustinM4 ай бұрын
I disagree. Zone seems to make more sense seeing how a corner is basically a 50/50 ball. You aren't fronting players on 50/50 balls. You are controlling your area and getting the ball out.
