Hey Coach, I know this is old but as a New DC, and trying to teach MS, I have a quick question. If you have an over powerful Nose, wouldn't it be better to keep him 0 to push an under center QB? Shotgun I get keeping him 2i. Just a thought, as in the MS we sometimes get monsters at a young age or would it be better at 2i and then have him shove to the opposite gap?

It depends on your base defense what you'd do with him but sure, there are times that's a good strategy. I don't know how bad that center is, or how slow that exchange is, so you might just be wasting him too. It's not going to be a 'catch all' solution.

On your run example at the end of the video, why would the Will take the pulling guard with his left shoulder and force the Mike to run over? Without weak side safety help wouldn't you want the Will to take the guard with the right shoulder and force the run inside for the Mike and pursuing defense?

Consistency. Keep it simple. I understand the argument, I just don't feel I can teach my kids to recognize one situation or another - always attack inside half.

I notice in 4-2-5 and 3-3-5 defenses, a lot of coaches on YT always roll the strong safety down into an 8 man box. Is a two safety look not as common in high school or is Cover 3 the main coverage teams play within this alignment and that's why the safety is in the box?

2-high safeties is common for schedules where it's needed, but the Weak Safety is the one who rolls back. However many high school defenses don't see as much passing and defending the run is more important.

Honest question coach. Is your nose tackle a true 1 tech shaded outside the center? Or is it a 2 (2eye) who’s shaded inside eye of the guard? I know both bring their own sets of problems and solutions I just wanted to know what your thoughts were on that

I know there’s a few different ways to play that A gap but I wanted to know if by playing one or the other invited certain runs or blocking schemes that helped or hurt u

Base is a 1-tech shade on the center. We also play a lot of 2i. I like the outside shade as the base because it's the same teaching as our 3-tech, making them slightly more interchangeable. But it's not a big deal. We play a 2i against 2-back Iso/lead teams to help constrict B gap, plus a few other situations.
