Very well and clearly explained. Thank you. I am just wondering why some people talk about using the bounce and not leading edge.

Bounce slides, leading edge digs, therefore using bounce is more forgiving.

Hi Michael, thank you for explaining the chipping. Would you say that for pitching everything will stay the same but with more swing and hinging to add it?

Where is her sternum, Michael?

Hmmm, very different to what I've heard. Mickelson and other professionals have always argued 'hinge and hold'. Early wrist break then hold the angle into the follow through and finish.

Jamie Ferguson hinge and hold is great for creating spin loft if you are talented like a tour pro and hit as many balls as they do but it doesn't give margin for error as with the forward shaft lean and steep angle of attack the leading edge is exposed rather than the bounce so you either pure it or you stick the club in the ground and chunk it. This method still gives the descending blow through the forward sternum but the bounce is exposed due to less forward shaft lean, you can also deliver more consistent loft as your not hinging and releasing which aids consistent distance control.

Hinge and hold tends to negate the effect of the bounce on the sole. For most people, doing that will have them stick the club in the ground and duff it.
