Playing Points with Alec 👉 kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJXXlHekZdBskKs

Strong improvement, clearly. Nice work to you and Alec especially. Nasty slider on ad side. Wellington seems a bit more natural / cleaner technique, but looks more uncomfortable than Alec out there in points so maybe more matchplay for him / coaching there would be of great benefit and allow him to play looser / more confidently. I'd like to see more of this with these two guys - a good level to display for a video like this. They are strong players with different styles that do certain things very well, but both with clear areas of improvement. Good stuff. Hope to see more of them.

What a sweet and powerful story! Sweet because you reveal much about your life and emotions and powerful because you address how to limit the emotional and psychological injuries that can be caused by trying to win so much, and then losing (even though you didn't lose your match). You just raised the internet coaching bar, Nik. Thank you.

This is absolutely why players will benefit from real time on court professional coaching. I am an old High School and USTA Junior tennis coach. PTR certified teacher so I understand I have a strong opinion on coaching as opposed to self taught or video lessons. When I was developing my game back in my early years I had a great teaching pro give me the same coaching advice that Nick is giving his players. Start off slow and adjust as necessary. Lots of fast footwork and nice long full strokes that land deep and result in short returns. Run everything down and use lots of net clearance so you can recover. Play to the service score and attack weakness. Find out what they don’t like at feed them an extra big serving. My coach turned me into a “ Lean Mean Ground Stroke Machine “ who could defend the baseline and attack at the net. A confident player is not afraid to wait for the right ball to attack. This is a mind game so you got to break their confidence by showing them you can play all day as well as put it away.

Alec was on fire. Very curious to see the coaching on Wellington, presumably in the next set. From this angle, it seemed like he's using the wrist on the forehand (much like me, I've been trying to correct it, but just can't stop the wrist flick in matches when I need to make up for the lack of positioning)

That drop volley at 4:59 was nasty. Impressive feel and play off aggressive approach shot by Wellington. That domepiece adds nice style points as well. Needs to shorten up the return swing on forehand, particularly on the fast hard courts like these appear to be
@wlpc19193 жыл бұрын
Wellington has a very ATP looking service motion. Could probably benefit from more racquet head acceleration and would see greater consistency, especially on his second serve - mechanics / motion impressive though. Needs to play against more lefties - Alec's game and serve threw off Wellington big time it seems since couldn't get into Alec's service games. Tricky if you don't regularly play lefties and can mess with your head a bit for sure.

Wellington was underestimating the bounce on the 2nd serves. He might just need to take a couple of steps back.
@wlpc19193 жыл бұрын
needs to cut off angle on ad side. if standing back, needs more to be a little outside sideline in positioning. to open for the slider and if he moves back without moving over its arguably more difficult for him to return effectively and be in good position for the next ball

Great video. Alec is obviously physically stronger, already in his puberty, and technically better as well. Both Alec and Wellington have pretty good serves, but groundstrokes mostly need a lot of work. Alec's forehand is very good though, just needs more repetition, some forehands have very good mechanics and pretty good racket lag, some are stiff. On the backhand he swings back too low, has no racket drop. Wellington's backhand is also ok, couple of backhands also had very good mechanics, but forehand needs to be deconstructed and worked on, very bad mechanics.

@wlpc19193 жыл бұрын
switch hands, you might be a lefty playing as a righty
@LunarEclipsism13 жыл бұрын
It's nearly impossible to accurately diagnose these things over the internet but this sounds like a common problem that occurs when players get tight and don't fully extend the leading side of their body before trying to blast the serve hard, meaning that the ball's trajectory isn't angled enough to give a good margin over the net. Make sure that when you toss the ball, the shoulder of your tossing arm lifts up towards the sky before you start accelerating the racket. I'm not talking about the height of the toss itself, but the position of your arm that's doing the tossing. Remember, the trophy position does not simply mean the arms are raised up with level shoulders, you need to tilt the shoulders as well, so that the shoulder of your tossing arm moves up and comes to rest near your jaw, while the shoulder of your racket arm is lowered on the other end of the seesaw. Then when you throw the racket towards the ball a millisecond later and reverse the tilt of the shoulders you will reach full extension. The ball can't travel towards the service box at the proper angle unless you are fully extended at contact.

No offense to Nikola but his coaching in a nutshell: This is a rlly important point. Absolutely fantastic
@wlpc19193 жыл бұрын
That's the most important mindset to have - this is my point and I'll do what it takes to make sure of it. Certainly you want to work on things and improve which might mean more misses than you'd otherwise have, but that has to be with in reason and strategy, winning / figuring out how to win are separate skills all together that should get arguably more attention / be stressed more than typically is the case for most folks
@knotwilg35963 жыл бұрын
Not at all. He gave - tactical advice: use slice serve, righty hates lefty slice serve; start in the middle, maybe he's tight; now not so tight, open up the court; don't go for winners, grinders love that; - mental advice: biggest point of the match, focus; take it home, pretend it's 4-4; serve it out right here - technical advice: you were too defensive there, ball landed too short, keep it deep + complimenting him while things were running well If anything, I would probably tune it down a little and leave some independence to my student, but this is an instructional video on the type of advice you give, if you give it.
@daddyV883 жыл бұрын
What do you expect in a match situation? To take Alec aside and do drills? I usually talk to myself between points and a quick analysis of the point, opponent, and strategy makes a tremendous amount of difference. Coaching is all mental during a match!

@IntuitiveTennis when you say "treat this as a crucial point" or as an "important point" what exactly do you mean we should be doing - get the ball in play, play aggressive, don't overthink.
