Many thanks coach, this will really help me in preparation foe a better defence against smashes. I really appreciate the advice on the squat position and a short backswing on returning the smash. I assume when defending in mens doubles everything is similar except the shot going down the centre, which is normally took by the player with the forehand on that side, or the stronger forehand if playing with a left handed partner. Many thanks.

Hi D K! Well in many aspects i feel doubles defense is a bit different as the attacks are faster and more consistent with 2 people there taking turns attacking so even the way you will return them will be a bit different. Hello coach. Your lessons have been so helpful to me. When defending smashes, why is the racket kept low rather than raising the racket up as frequently advised in general
@CoachKennieAsuncion3 жыл бұрын
I advise for rackets to be lower in the simple fact that smashes are fast and strong with a trajectory going down so keeping the racket low lessens moving time and you can immediately get to the shot! 😁🏸

How to return the smash that comes to your face or your body? Will you move aside and hit the shuttle as a return to the side smash or is there a way to return it? @
@CoachKennieAsuncion4 жыл бұрын
Ideally, we try to keep our rackets in front of us that when the shot is targetted to our bodies we can put out our rackets and take it before it gets really close to the body but that is the ideal way. However, majority of the time we are slightly late and the shuttle comes really close to our body, if you have that quick reaction to move your body a step and hit it, that would be great ... i will note your comment down so i can discuss this issue in one of my videos especially since its easier to demonstrate as opposed to explaining it via messaging. I hope i was able to help😁🏸

My returns would mostly be a mid court clear only which would give the other team the chance to smash it again easily, any tips to send it further back and much higher? I'm using a 4U head-heavy racket with BG66 ultimax string on a 25 lbs tension.
@CoachKennieAsuncion4 жыл бұрын
Are you standing way back when waiting for defense try getting closer to the mid court or slightly forward and see if that helps. Sometimes we stand to far back for defense and it makes it harder to push it to the back...

I don't seem to be able to put my racket where the shuttle is going so that I can hit it back. Mainly if it is coming towards me. I can twist my body so that I hit the shuttle behind me. I have instinctively returned a couple of hard smashes near the floor, but I'd rather be more intentional. I noticed that professional players don't seem to be bothered about getting smashes and that many return with backhand swing from the floor.
@CoachKennieAsuncion4 жыл бұрын
Great for you, you are good with those shots, not everyone can return those kinds of shots. The pros make it look so easy and really there are many different styles and approaches on how you want your game or style to be. I’m glad your good with yours... thanks for your comment😁🏸
@youkuya4 жыл бұрын
@@CoachKennieAsuncion I mostly have a difficult time when the smash comes very fast. I do not seem to put the racket where the shuttle is going like Momota or Lin Dan would. Maybe I just need to play more games. The returns I mentioned near the floor were freaks, but may indicate I have the right instinct to strengthen? Is there a particular technique I could practice?
@CoachKennieAsuncion4 жыл бұрын
Your insights about your own game play is good. Not many can analyze their own games. Yes you are right you just need to practice with more games. If you have opponents that can challenge your defense more, play with them more often & sometimes purposely give a high easy to attack shot then practice your defense & anticipation with it... 😁🏸

Mam, when we hit a net kill if the racket head crosses the net without touching it,will it be a foul? What will happen if the racket touches the net?
@CoachKennieAsuncion4 жыл бұрын
If your racket goes over the net while the game is ongoing it will be a fault for you and an automatic point for your opponent. Same goes with touching the net, if your racket or body accidentally touches the net while game is ongoing it will be a fault... that’s if the umpire sees it and calls you for it otherwise if the umpire doesnt see or call it then the game continues...

I suggest he does footwork as much as he can 5-10min before he actually starts playing. When he does certain drills like multi shuttle, ask feeder to slowly speed up the pace, fast enough for him to have a hard time maybe it might shuffle his legs but it will be a good practice... when his footwork is good enough it will be much easier to work on returning shots to his opponents. Hi coach! I wonder why philippines cannot produce badminton pro players like indonesia? Thank you
@CoachKennieAsuncion4 жыл бұрын
Every now and then we’d have 1 or 2 good players who’d perform well but support is not enough and not continous for different reasons. And unlike many asian countries we dont have educational programs that are incorporated with sports programs so its hard for a regular student to do both study and play badminton. Like in the case of my brother and I, we had to finish graduating from college before we started having more competitions. That is a bit late & at that time we had to look for our own sponsors to fund our trips... but then again, I am keeping my fingers crossed that there will be another Filipino player who can do better bec they are getting funded more now by the association so hopefully its a brighter future for philippine badminton. 😁🏸
