I love your channel. I am 59. I started running in October using the maffetone method. It was hilarious how slow I was running and how much I was walking. I have been very impressed about how running slow but most days of the week, has improved my aerobic capacity. I ran of 5k by Thanksgiving. I still walk run mostly as it is hard to keep the pulse below 120, but I have made significant progress and have lost weight. I just ran walked seven miles today, and feel pretty good -that is my long day. I had always thought that running meant running faster, and to get faster you had to run faster. Learning zone 2 has made running much more fun, doable, and injury free. Thanks for your information.

I got out for a 4k run after a 2mo hiatus after an ugly fall, I"m a heavy '72 yr old male. Just banged up, badly jarred right knee. I fell descending soft wooded trail hill, toe caught, ass-over-tea-kettle thing. My knee finally stopped hurting and out for a run yesterday. I surprised myself how relatively well I did. No sprints, just a steady run and surprised by my pace and post run recovery. I was out for ~35min and was expecting to be tanked, afterwards, I wasn't. Your blogs are always so encouraging. A great place to check myself. Always recommend Coach Parry. (I do squats with a 15lb kettlebell held over my chest.)

As a 50+ beginner, are bodyweight exercises enough or do I have to go to a gym for strength training?

these guys spout utter nonsense..... there is no such thing as an easy run for a beginner, even at just over walking pace, that pace is total killer
